ok, 4 to the flop in a raised pot. This is a 1/2nl bar side game, but no one in the hand is drinking much.
You get to be prettyboy! He's ok, kind of tight-weak, good at tourneys.
cowboy and me are both known to be very agro.
pot: ~$45
clueless preflop raiser - $90
prettyboy - $220
cowboy - $50
me - $190
You have :Js::Jc:!
the flop comes :Jd:
clueless bets $20
you call $20
Why did you do this?

If hand histories told me that he folds to reraises, but comes back huge w/ a raise on the turn after just being called on the flop, I would do this.
You are taking the chance of being outdrawn, but you know this is the best way to take down a huge pot.
This is rare though, I almost always reraise big here.

I've found myself taking these line more often lately. What he does is mostly a "scare" bet.. he probably has 'something' and just wants to see if he can maybe fold you out or if you are going to reraise him, in which case he folds. If he gets the impression here that you call b/c you are on a flush draw with one diamond, and no diamond hits on the turn, he might be getting the confidence to raise it. Then you can over-the-top reraise him.. or maybe wait for the river to do that, depending on your read of where he is at, the actual turn card, and basically what you feel like.
My perspective on this matter atleast.

He's talking about villian ("clueless").
Wait, who was clueless in this example?

There are reasons for doing this. You aren't giving us enough information about the preflop action. What are his pot odds for the 20$ call? I assume this is a raised pot? If so that would decrease flush chances a lot.
If you suspect you are up against a made flush, then a flat call is fine. You are basically playing your hand like an OESD or something. If the board pairs you take a stack (which will happen 30% of the time). Theres no need to protect against draws if there is a strong possibility you are up against a pat hand.

Here's the problem renton...
Well first of all, the pot size WAS stated. ~45 + $20, he gets 2.25:1, only for one card.
Second, his hand IS PROBABLY GOOD! If he's thinking ranges here, clueless can't have a flush here, me and cowboy could be playing any two.
