On a 10 player table the early positions are the first 3 seats to the left of the blinds. Middle positions are the three seats to the left of early position and late positions are one off the button and the button. Of course, after the flop the blinds go first.

Using the term seats can be confusing because it also sometimes refers to the stationary seats around the table that do not move with the button.

OK imagine a 10 person table. Now imagine the button on that table. Now rotate clockwise.

First is the small blind (SB)
Next is Big Blind (BB)
Next is Under the Gun (UTG)
Then UTG +1
Then UTG +2
Then Middle Position (MP)
Then MP2
Then MP3
Then Cut Off (CO)
And we are back to the button.

If you have less people, you take off positions.
1st one to leave is MP3, then UTG +2, then MP2, then UTG+1.

Hope that brings it to light.

thanks

for preflop,
UTG, UTG+1, UTG+2= early
MP, MP2, MP3 =middle
CO, BUtton=Late

is that correct?

and after the preflop, does the early, middle , and late position change?
so left of the Button first 3 is early, next 3 to left of early is middle, and last 4 is late?

thanks

Well. That gets into the trickier part.

CO and button are always late position. And MP3 and MP2 CAN be consitered late position. But the key is to "buy the button" if you are in MP2 and you have a hand pre-flop. Raise. IF CO and Button folds, you will have bought the button and be last to act on every other round. If no one folds, and all 10 see the flop, I might way that MP2 is middle and MP3 is late. But that is rarely the case.

In the pre-flop round BB is last to act. But will be 2nd or 1st to act on every other round (depending on what SB does)

It was hypothesized that UTG is the worst position at the table. But that is only if you really know how to play from within the blinds.

There, wrap your mind around that and ask me to decipher any of it you may need.
