Post subject: Suited Connectors/Axs and Poker Tracker

So I only limp suited connectors (referring to JTs-54s) and A9s-A2x in LP. I ran a filter on PT last night and saw that both of these types of hands were losing $$$. It seems like these hands are just a suckout on your bankroll. My sample size is still small (5,602), so I was wondering if anyone out there with a larger sample size can has positive gains on these types of hands, or if they are in the red as well.

Still a small sample (21k, NL100/200),
SCs JTs-45s show an average profit of 0.56PTBB
I can take a while for these to turn profit, 45s is a big winner for me even though it has only won two big pots, remember why you play them and don't invest too much with just a pair. Working out implied odds is also very important.
A10s-A2s are up 0.16PTBB although A2s-A5s are all losers, they just look so pretty

after just over 13k hands 45s-TJs are up 0.58PTBB/Hand
A9s-A2s is up 0.88PTBB/Hand
This is paradise 10NL. Its a very loose passive game where hands get paid off so drawing hands rule.

This is why PT is important to use when you want to find leaks or improve your game.
Those hands suck if you play them < LP. They are a double edged-sword because:
What flop are you looking for? Do you really want to flop a flush? Who's going to pay you off except possibly a lower flush? So, then you want two suited. Well, now you have to chase a hand but only if you have odds. Then if you hit, you still might not get paid off. Of course with SC's you have more possibilities because str8 potential.
With that said, if you can play these hands and break even or better then it's worth it. Any hand you can break even with or better is worth playing so opponents have a harder time putting you on a range of hands. Shorthanded and higher limits are where you can play these hands more often.

I think its TJ Cloutier who says in his book he almost prefers playing non-suited connectors as hes les likely to get himself trapped to a higher flush. To an extent this is true - you shouldnt rely totally on the flush potential of SCs - but they do provide extra outs when youve only flopped a pair. Straight draws however are often gold, they have massive implied odds as they often go unseen. Say I have 4,3 on an Q,2,5 board. I have an OESD, and if I put my aggressive opp on AQ it can be +EV to call bad odds here knowing that my ace out will probably destack him.

I dumped these awhile back except in special situations (just an insane #/callers -- I limp; or a feeling that I can buy the flop -- I raise)
For me "suited connectors" means KJs, QJs, and 78s

meh... the top-pair value on these is crappy. If you're disciplined, and can remember why you're playing them, they can sometimes go. but it's a lot less stressful to pass unless you're in a nice position.
e.g. hand i was playing as i type this: JcTc in BB, 2 limpers then a minraise. Def. call.
Flop J85 rainbow no clubs. I check and fold to a 4BB bet

I dont need poker tracker to tell me that my SC play was leaking away large amounts of money. I have pretty much edited them out of my game except in rare situations, and havent looked back.
