been mainly playing standard ring games (.05/.10) at stars, have looked at 6Max, but what I'm wondering is there and advantage or reason to play mainly one or the other? What are some advantages/disadvantages to either Standard Ring or 6Max?

I am more sucessful at full because players are still loose and i pay 50% less blinds. I think the main difference is that since the blinds comes more often rock play is less profitable and reads becomes more important. Since Stars .05/.10 players are not so easy to read i rather not play 6 max.

That makes sense about the blinds coming faster...I'm more of a tighter player anyways so far I'm enjoying the normal rings anyways. Still working on becoming a TAG player.

6 max offers many benfits.
With fewer starting hands out there you can bluff semibluff more often than you might at full ring.
Position is still important, but now raising preflop is more important as you can raise with less substantial holdings.
Also, the qualityt of player playing 6max is arguably, a little poorer than full ring. There are too many players willing to see every flop with crap.I now play 6max almost exclusivly and it suites my quite aggressive game. Id reccomend it once you have learned what a tagg game is in full ring.

6 max has generally worse players. people tend to throw more money around and bluff more. if you are better at identifying bluffs, and at bluffing, than your opponents, then you will probably be able to make more money at 6-max. you also can lose money much faster, as it becomes more necessary to risk more of your stack on weaker holdings.

6-max has a lot more variance, but I think the main benefit of it is that it makes you a far better poker player. You have to play more hands, make tougher decisions in more marginal situations, and pay a lot more attention to other people's playing styles.
If you really wanna have some fun after you are comfortable with your 6-max game, find a low populated table and play 2-3 handed.

in addition, I think another big advantage to having 6-max expierience is that if you are playing full-ring, and the table starts to break up and there are still 5-6 people there, most people will stick to their tighter full-ring style. you can start picking up a lot of small pots and just dominating these people. it's fun!

One of my favourite things about pokerroom is that there are 5-handed tables, and for some reason they play differently to 6max tables at other sites. If anyone can explain why (I play the $50NL tables) I'd be interested to hear your theories.
Shorthanded tables are more likely to bite you on the arse if you're either playing scared, on tilt or not fully concentrating, but on the plus side, if your A-game is flowing and you're in the zone, 6max gives you the best opportunity to play post-flop poker for excellent rewards.
