So this is a really standard spot that I need some clarification on. You are in early position and have AK. You raise 4xbb. It folds to villian in late position who 4x 3 bets you. What are the factors that effect you decision on whether to fold, call or 4 bet.
Here are some of mine:
Villian is short stacked. (shove)
Villian is obvious noob. Running 80/0 is a good indicator (shove)
Villian is laggy. 30/20 full ring (4 bet?)
Villian is Tag. 20/17 (4 bet?)
Villian is a nit. 10/7 (fold?)
When would you consider flatting and why?

edit: forgot that 3b range is not necessarily equal to continuing range against a 4b

you shove when an 80/0 3bets you? With a pfr of 0, doesnt his raise signify AA where we have like 8% equity?
i basically consider this. AK has about 40% equity against a range of {AK, QQ+}, and has about 50% against {AQ+, JJ+} With 40% equity against the first range, im fine shipping it since my initial bet should cause the pot to be large enough to make the play +ev. AK is wtfpwned against a range of KK+ and even QQ+ though, so i have to know that his range is at least {ak, QQ+} and that he continues with all of it. If villain doesnt continue with his entire 3b range, then calling may be better to avoid folding out the hands we have some equity against and leaving only kk and aa continuing. Knowing 3b% is helpful in determining the actual range, and 4b call% to determine continuing range. I hate calling with AK in a 3b pot oop, but if i feel i have an equity edge and he doesnt continue with his whole range than i will (like if aq was in villains range)
the above is really all i consider. stacksizes and tag/lag can help determine this though. Like you said, a shortstack will 3b fairly wide and its an easy 4b shove. If i had been fairly aggro lately and thought my opponents knew, then i would also take that into consideration. finally, 6max shows some wider 3b ranges that include AQ and might actually make me call instead of raise...
usually at micros, their 3b range is also their continuing range though.
