In this edition of "spoonitnow on," we look at an alternative explanation of fold equity.

[10:10] <@spoonitnow> i feel very strongly about "fold equity" being a misnomer
[10:11] <@spoonitnow> at least the way it's typically used
[10:11] <@spoonitnow> nobody thinks of fold equity as a percentage of the pot
[10:16] <@spoonitnow> suppose you have a bucket
[10:16] <@spoonitnow> we're going to play a game where everybody puts some money into the bucket, and then everybody takes some money out of the bucket
[10:16] <Miff> this sounds like a saw movie
[10:16] <@spoonitnow> if you think about the money you're putting in/out of the bucket as a percentage
[10:16] <@spoonitnow> then you want to take a higher percentage out than the percentage you put in
[10:17] <Miff> = $$$$
[10:17] <@spoonitnow> ie: if we put in 40% of the bucket, we want to take out more than 40%
[10:17] <@spoonitnow> application: suppose we have a pure bluff for $40 into a pot of $60
[10:17] <@spoonitnow> after we bluff, the total pot will be $100, and we will have put in 40% of that
[10:17] <@spoonitnow> we need our opponent to fold more than 40% for that bluff to be profitable
[10:18] <@spoonitnow> so we're taking a higher percentage out of the bucket than we were putting in
[10:18] <@spoonitnow> and wouldn't you know that the amount we put into the bucket on a pure bluff is bet/(bet+pot)
pot of $60
