Hi,

I play my wife in poker sometimes at home and we have run into some questions about showdowns.

What are the rules regarding showing cards? Let's say it is the river and I am first to act. I check and then she checks. I show my two cards and then she shows one of her cards which is enough to win the pot. Is she required to show both or is she able to just show one?

Same situation as above except I show one card which is enough to win the pot, and she mucks. Can she demand that I show the other card, even if she has mucked?

Thanks

you have to show two cards to win. at a casino if you flip one card thats enough to win the pot and throw the other into the muck your opponenet wins the pot even if there two cards are weaker than the one you show.

if all hands are mucked except for one, obviously the hand that didn't muck wins the pot regardless of how many cards that person shows. they can show none if they'd like. sometimes people bluff, get called and throw their hands into the muck all pissed off, and then demand to see the winning hand. they have no leverage, though, because villain has already won the pot regardless of what they had or what they show.

however, in the first instance, your wife has to show her entire hand. if you're at a casino, a dealer isn't generally going to demand that you show your entire hand before they reward you the pot, but the opponent can certainly ask to see both cards. you need two hole cards to have a winning hand

what if it goes check check on the river, and for some reason, the person who is supposed to show first says "i got nothin'" and the other says "i got just ace high", person who said "nothing" mucks his hand first, and then mr. ace high doesn't feel obligated to show, so does likewise and mucks. no hand is shown down. does the pot automatically to mr. ace high because he mucked second?
