So when you flop the absolute nuts, and you're playing against players who aren't necessarily super-loose, what's the best way to go about extracting money? I can't even count how many times I've flopped a monster hand only to get next to nothing out of it, and I always wind up scratching my head and second guessing the way I play. Sure, sometimes you just can't get anything out of people when there's a scary board, but as for general advice, should you check the river hoping for a bet? If you don't get one, should you check the turn too? If you don't get one should you bet the river?

Let's assume there's no reads on your opponents. So far my strategy has been to either bet half the pot and hope somebody caught something, or check the flop and the turn hoping for something, and if I don't get anything then I bet something modest on the river that makes it look like I'm trying to steal the pot.

It depends on a few factors I think. Was the pot raise PF? How many people are in? If the pot is small to begin with, you will have a harder time I think.

I had one hand today, I was in the BB and got a Q3, there were 4 limpers and the SB completed and the flop came QQQ. Obviously I was first to act, there is no way I fire at that pot. There were too many people left in and I knew someone would hit something on the turn or river.

I was going to reply here with a simple 3-letter word but AFchung and settecba beat me to it. Unless you flop the absolute stone cold nuts, like quads or a big boat, just bet out. Sometimes people will actually mistake your bet for weakness or a bluff. That's where your image and past betting behavior comes into play.

The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

With no information about my opponents, board texture, or stack sizes I would just fold so I don't get sucked out on.
