Default Skype / Aim discussion / sweat group ?

    Hello All ,

I have done things like this a couple times before maybe even on here , I can't really remember . But I have always felt that I have gained a lot of information and knowledge from various chat groups I have been a part of . I know FTR has the chat but I have went in there lately and its been pretty much empty .

Does anyone here play close to daily ? I still play about 90% of the days of the month . I play 25 NL and 50 NL mostly and any mtt that I have 100 buyins for and feel is +ev . So I am around my computer quite a bit throughout each day .

I was wondering if any players here would be interested in a chat group on SKYPE or AIM , to discuss hands , ideas , sweats or just generally BS during the your play session . I used to be involved in quite a few of these but they seemed to have died off for various reasons and there is very little discussion to be had in the ones that are still active .

If anyone is interested feel free to hit me up on skype - halfkbed or aim - hahnshane

I've never liked the typing like in IRC while playing. But we used to have a great Ventrillo group many moons ago. I really liked being able to just speak on a headset and then still be able to post here when hand discussions would happen. Can a skype channel be set up open like ventrillo used to be?

yes Jyms i think u can groupchat in Skype through voice/headsets

In Ventrillo the channel was always open, anyone with the password could join at any time. In Skype I don't know if a channel can be left open. I think you need to be invited in.

Ya someone would have to call each person that needed to be added to the group , so it would not quite work the same .

Maybe ' Mumble' would be an option. it's a free open source software used by gamers to communicate over VOIP. I guess u can make ur own channel without requiring passwords and such. It's also only a 30 mb download.

Ya looking at it, Mumble seems the same as Ventrilo without the monthly fees. Has anyone used this? Is it based the same as the ventrilo idea?

Would anyone be interested? Because I could set something up to have both a commune and Strat type of group. I know on Vent we had both tourney, cash and commune type groups andyou could bounce around all in the same channel.

Keeping in mind that it would be an FTR based channel driving strat and posting here.

Mumble functions basically identical to vent , I play WOW and have used mumble as a substitute for ventrillo for raiding and doing RBG's . Pretty sure you can make diff groups and everything just the same as vent .

I will look into this tomorrow. Maybe we can have a grinding channel available by the weekend

I would be interested in something like this.
Currently grinding live cash games. Life is good.

vent sounds kind of alienating for people not interested in using vent but who just want to chat. I think your best bet is promoting the irc again and if you can get that going have a vent sub-thing going.

Our biggest issue here Renton is getting people to post on FTR. The IRC chat client tends to lend itself to being more distant from the forum with less posting here as a result. There has been many instances of problems between an IRC group and FTR. I'm not saying that is the issue at this time, but I can say there are reasons why the #FTR chat is empty but there are members in an IRC channel elsewhere. One of my goals for FTR is to increase posting, and I wonder how FTR can make an IRC, Ventrilo, Mumble or skype group increase our postings in the strat forums, not alienate them.

As people are in #flopturnriver not #ftr

I'm lazy, didn't feel like typing out the whole word.

I might go on the channel in a bit myself and see if anyone has some ideas

voice chat highly overrated while playing. if i had to summerize 65% of the talk me renton and deanglow did in thailand while playing it would

"it's time to show him the bidness."
"enjoylife is showing us how to enjoy life here"
    "______ in the house"

i imagine this percentage would go up to like 99% given you can't see what the other person is doing.

Ya I get that. I just found I tended to have a few more HH conversations during play and seemed to grind longer and less tilted with people on the other end, even for small talk. I never found it to be a chatterbox, in fact there was never a lot of conversation except about a particular HH. If someone talked a lot it would tend to be something that would make people leave the channel more than stay. The odd rail without Teamveiwer worked too. I can remember watching guys play by opening their tables and they were able to just tell you their hole cards.

It was just a little more personal and a lot more information could be shared or discussed as you could talk a lot faster than anyone can type. Particularly while playing tables.

Mumble isn't free either so maybe just attempting a group skype might be best for the immediate future.

There's a solid group of 7-8 guys in the FTR Chat Room (link in my signature) regularly right now including myself, m2m, bikes, dozer, jyms and others.
