Default Site for my first serious deposit

    Hey all,
I'll be really brief here. A number of years ago I threw something like $20 onto Stars and lost it quite quickly. I then began to read theory and played live and learned a lot. Now that I have a solid job I'm looking to get back into online NL Holdem. I plan on depositing $600 and follow strict bankroll guidelines by playing microstakes cash games. The thing is I want to use deposit bonuses to my advantage but I'm just not sure which site to use!! Obviously I can't use pokerstars so that leaves me with 888, PartyPoker and Full Tilt plus a couple others I'd imagine (I'm based in Canada). I was just looking for any advice here or if there were a few I should clearly avoid/look in to.

    Cheers.

What stakes exactly are you planning to play . if its 2nl frankly you are hardly going to clear much in the way of a deposit bonus.Als what sort of volume are you planning to play. 888 is weaker field , but rewards for microstakes are terrible . Have you got a hud if not invest some of the 600 into a hud

I'll be starting off with .5/.10 to gain a bit more of a familiarity then moving swiftly (hopefully) into .10/.25. I have already budgeted for a HUD outside of the $600; I'm just debating between PT4 and HM2 leaning towards the latter. Initial thought is about 2-3 hours every night on 2/3 tables then maybe 6 hours on a saturday and sunday.

I would put that $ 600 to the side for now and make sure your game is solid enough to beat 2nl and 5 nl before you move up to 10nl. So deposit $ 50 wherever get 50k at 2nl and 5nl under your belt first, then make decisions from there. Defo buy PT4 or HM2 and have a look at flopzilla which is an excellent tool IMO for analysing hands.

I wouldn't deposit $600 thinking you will unlock the bonus in full playing microstakes. You might be better off starting with $75-$100 and playing 5NL then move up to 10NL once your comforable with the site and play.

Yeah, I do not feel confident yet recommending deposits on many sites. If any, Bovada and Carbon would be the two I would start out with.
It takes 2 years to learn to talk, but a lifetime to learn when to shut up.

I would try PokerStars again. They have more than just first time deposit bonuses.

Like Eric suggested, PokerStars has gradual bonus-releases even for those who have already made an initial deposit.

Getting 50k hands in at 2nl is solid advice. It's a cheap lesson in online microstakes. 2nl at stars is better than it used to be, so there's a good place to start. If you can consistently beat 2nl and 5nl at stars, that will lay a solid foundation for beating 10nl and 20nl at some of the softer sites where you can bonus whore more seriously.

I am personally a big fan of party poker, they constantly have new promotions directed at Canadians so that might interest you. Traffic and game variety is good too. Good luck with your choice!

You better consider deposit again in pokerstars: especially now because of the Pokerstars Makes Millionaires Promo. Read about this in Pokerstars site!!!

Try pokerstars again, or you can deposit in smoothest rooms like betvictor, coralpoker and to take advantage of their benefits .

reasoning for these posts is pretty bad . OP stated that he has already deposited on stars so he isn't going to get any deposit bonuses to help pad a win rate or cushion a learning curve loss. The chance of actually hitting the millionaire is ultra low , he'd probably stand a better chance on the lottery. Player standard at stars is generally better than at other smaller sites. Better to choose a site backed by a big company(sportsbook etc) though rather than a small unheard of site that is likely to run off with the players funds ( on that note avoid lock poker , no one has been paid in over a year).
