I suppose this goes in the Beginners Forum since its a hand ranking question:
Is the wheel the second highest straight behind the Ace high
straight?
I've never heard this before but I'm hosting a tourney this weekend and this question was raised. I'd like to know the answer before the tourney starts just in case.
Thanks guys

No, the straight with the highest card it the winner. In the wheel, the ace is the low card, if someone had the 2-6 straight they would win over A-5.

To put it bluntly, "wheel" (also called "bicycle") is a nickname for an A,2,3,4,5 straight -- a 5-high straight -- the absolute lowest straight possible.

Yeah, i was afraid this question would make me look dumb. (maybe the donkey doesn't help)
I only posted so I would have a response when the fool who raised this question brings it up again.
One more question: Do all red cards beat all black cards?

Okay, I'll play along. Only if the black cards don't contain a spade since spades are the highest suit.
Remember it's the five best cards out of your two hole cards and the 5 community cards. So if you can make a full house using a set of black cards and a pair of red cards, it would beat all red cards or all black cards.

No. Color in and of itself doesn't matter. If I have an ace high with a spade and you have an ace high with a diamond (assuming kickers are the same or irrelevant), we split the pot.

Although A-2-3-4-5 would be great in a Hi-Low game. :P
