As everybody know, there are special names for the different seats/positions in a poker game. My question here is, which names disappear when a table get smaller? Lets say, a 6 seat table or 7 seat. Are there any "rules" or naming conventions regarding this.

The Button, SB, and BB will always be on the table regardless of how many players. But, I think I know what you're asking. Let's just say there is a full 10 person table. The positions might look like this (based on first to act preflop):

UTG, UTG+1, UTG+2, MP1, MP2, HJ, CO, BTN, SB, BB.

Now for a 6 person game:

UTG, MP, CO, BTN, SB, BB.

4 person game:

UTG, BTN, SB, BB.

You could even call terms like HJ and CO - LP1, LP2. But those are just the jargon terms they have been called over the years (I think!). So basically, you could just subtract and add numbers to the under the gun, middle position, and late position depending on the number of players. I think that is basically how it works.

I hope this isn't confusing.
