A friend of mine told me that in sites like party poker and such, it's illegal to do business with them. As such, he said there was no way that they could force you to pay any of the debt to them, so as long as you ignored them they couldnt do anything further. Is this true? how could they still be in business and running profitably if so?

well, im not sure what he is talking about...How do you accumulate debt with an online company? You have to deposit money to play, and if you lose it then you have to deposit more...The only debt building would be with youself...maybe he is just talking about online gambling is technically illegal because of the wire act, but all sites are run offshore....I have heard of a few people claiming to have problems GETTING their money, but in those cases I believe the poker sites have good reason to believe they have cheated in some way (of course they never tell us that part, we are just supposed to feel sorry for them)
but i don't know any way to rack up debt with a online poker company -

okay, well in the grand scheme that is still penny change - just like bouncing a check doesn't make you a criminal, you just have to pay for it - That isn't really accumulating "debt" - not a significant amount anyway -

How is this possible? It must be a bank charge like Trainer_jyms said.

I really supect that if you ended up owing a company like Party money in any serious way they would be able to get it from you. All they are are a casino that happens to be in another country (usually Gibralter).
If you owed something like the MGM Grand a pot of cash and then moved to the UK, do you think they would just let it be? I think it would only be a matter of time before two polite men in nice suits came and visited you...
However, like the other guys are saying, if you have to deposit to play and you ran out, you can't play. So the debt you are getting is further up the chain. Sooner or later it is going to come back and bite you, so find out who you owe and pay it off. It's easier than letting it get worse.

thats the @#%#ed up thing, see, i have 2 bank accounts linked, one with money in it (the one i use) and one without. i linked the pp acccount to the one i dont use, just so it'll be different, and i thought the bank would give like a +/- leeway kind of deal, anyways:
so i deposited my first 50 bucks, (back in the day when i was an uber-noob) and got kinda unlucky and dropped it. my bank at this point shows -50 obviously, so i went to the bank, so my bank account is even, but THEY'RE saying that i still owe the money.

you can't use your bank thru party poker. There is no option for this in the deposit section. When you go to deposit what is your method of transaction. If you found a way let me know.I have lots of accounts with no money. I'll Just deposit get the bonus and withdraw in the same day no loss.
