I'm relatively new to online texas holdem and would greatly appreciate help understanding the relationship, if any, between the stakes one would play at in a ring game and at what sort of cost of MTT or Sit-N-Go Tournaments they MIGHT play at also?

In other words, if player "A" plays in tournament "B" with "Tournament B's" entry cost being "C", what sort of stakes might that player play at if they were also an active ring game player as well? I've been playing in B&M NL tournaments for about a year now and after having some modest success in tournaments, I'm toying with the idea of making NL my new part-time job and looking to start playing more online.

I'm sure there are unique situations for everyone but I'm just looking for a general ballpark. I do understand that an individual's bankroll dictates, or at least it should heavily influence, the cost or types of games their playing in.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

basically you want 20 (although i prefer 30) buyins for ring games, and about the same (again i prefer 30) sit n go buyins. For multi table tournaments you need to have a very large bankroll compared to your buyins, but i don't have an actuall number.

It also comes down to skill. I play 100Nl and some 200nl but i only play 30 and 50 dollar sit n goes even though i am now generously bankrolled for 100 dollar sit n goes. Also, i only like to play 5, 10 and 20 dollar MTT's because i don't feel that i have enough skill to play at a higher buyin level.

So basically you just need to combine your bankroll, your skill level and the stakes you are comfortable playing at and decide on what buyin you want to play at.

Thanks for the insight....so when you say $100NL and $200NL, those are the ring game stakes you play at?
