I have been trying to figure out of late...how to recognize a weakness in an opponent - which I will later turn into abusing the weakness to my advantage. The problem I struggled with when first starting was putting myself in an opponents position - which obviously doesn't work since they do things differently. Using the reverse of this though (ie your opponent puts himself in my shoes to figure out what I have) might be a good way to recognize weakness.

I was playing live last night, and I player I had previously characterized as a "calling station" I believe isn't exactly that. When he hits the nuts...he likes to push all in. In his mind....other players do the same....which means, he calls a lot of small to medium raises (he sees as weakness), but folds to huge raises or all-ins...since he sees this as strength (this is how he would bet). The only way to bluff this player is by pushing hard....and value betting when ahead.

Obviously this is very simple example...and maybe seems intuitive for a lot of players, but writing it down and thinking it through makes a lot of sense. After reading this over a couple of times...I almost feel foolish for not seeing this before. Comments?
