OK - I bet the pot get called and he hits his flush, see hand below.
From this forum I've learned that his call is stupid - right?
Should I overbet the pot to avoid this, or is my play ok?
Also, please rate my play after the turn. Should I just check and fold?

Is he capable of minraising the river without having you beat?

Probably not.

Yes, he was incorrect to call. Did you know he was a chaser before you got involved in the hand? With a read on a chaser you don't try to buy them out. You milk them hard while they chase, and fold when they hit. You missed the folding when they hit part.

Don't act like a big shot when the board coordinates. He called a big bet, so you have to slow down when the third heart hits. Check over. Feel beat at this point. That's because he could also have trips for all you know. That's what I would have put him on. Especially with the raise on the river paired Q. That potentially fills up a set to a full house. It sounds to me like your not the type to lay AA down when it's obviously beat. The prospect of Flush or House would have grinded me to a halt. Maybe one or the other is fine, but not the prospect of both.

It's ok to relinquish control of a hand if you feel you are behind. Don't jam AA and KK down people's throats with a blind eye to the board. Don't be one of those people who are always saying "AA cracked again!". I always tell that person "Well ya, but there was a straight and a flush on the board, and two other people were betting hard"
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Agreed.

Just this morning I had a brain cramp on a hand like this. I was on the button in 6 max, and I re-raised a guy before the flop. I held AKo, he had min-raised with what I suspected was Ax. The flop came out all undercards with two hearts. He bet almost the pot. I decided he hadn't hit and raised him twice his bet, which he called after some hesitation. The turn was a third heart. He checked to me and I bet out the same amount I had bet on the flop, which he called. On the river he checked to me, I checked behind, and he flipped over AT of hearts.

My mistake was betting the turn. I should have pegged him for the flush draw from his actions on the flop. He made a bad call on my flop raise but that's beside the point.

The call on the flop most likely means one of three things - he's on a flush draw, he's on a straight draw, or he already has you beat. When the heart comes, you're only ahead if he's on a straight draw, which is unlikely because of pre-flop action.

Having said that, I would check the turn and I might call a small bet on the turn/river(probably a leak). I don't think betting the turn is horrible, to gain information, but - 1) betting $5.00 into a $30.00 pot won't get you much information and 2) the information that you did get (his call) spelled bad news for you, but you didn't listen to it and dropped $20 more on the river. This was probably a result of your turn bet being so small that you thought he might think you were weak.

So - don't bet the turn, but if you do, bet at least half the pot, and when he calls, believe that you're beat.

Oh and yes, this was a bad call by him, but you made it a good one by paying off his implied odds in buckets.

With the AKs he may have thought he had the best hand already post flop...he shouldn't with your preflop bet, but maybe. Plus with overs and the nut flush draw, he probably thought he had alot more outs than he actually did. If you've got anything but AA or KK he's got about .45 chance of hitting TPTK or the flush.

I'm not saying it was a good call because he could have had a read that you had AA, KK or AK with the preflop, but still not terrible as it seems

I say bet the pot and see what happens. If they call and only have a flush draw, that's exactly what you want. They're putting money in the pot with you as the 2-1 favorite. Do this 100 times, and you'll be way ahead (provided you can fold the AA when the flush hits).

In THIS case, he has a suited AK, which is a very good hand. If he thinks you might have raised and bet the pot with QQ, then he's counting the Aces and Kings as outs too. If he thinks you might also have AK, then he's either splitting or catching his flush.

Look at his position: You hold the AKs, call a raise, and flop two of your suit: do you fold it to a contuniation bet from the original raiser? From this position, I might even raise this flop to see how much you like you hand and/or to earn a free card on the turn. (I'll accept criticism on this, though).

So moral is: check and then fold to any bet fearing he hit a flush? Then he could just scare me out of the hand with him holding TT, JJ or even QQ and playing with a little confidence, couldn't he?

Thanks for comments, I know I should have folded, but my brain was not working very well at the time and I therefor quit playing a few hands after this to avoid further losses...

Thats the thing about the internet poker player, their willing to put all their money in on a draw. Just keep in mind that more often than not you'll be getting the cash.

excellent point .. i take advantage of people who cannot lay down their AA or KK ... highly profitable situations
