When tryin to make a tough read do you guys go by what you already know about the player, just look at the odds, or do you try to read the player just on that particular hand???

combination of things, sometimes you go with the odds, and sometimes you call with a pair of 5s because he looks to be bluffing and the pot is big.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

Reads are based on first picking out a player's playing style (LAGG, TAGG, tight passive, calling station), and then matching it with what kind of moves they have made in a particular hand. Doing this will alow you to pick out a range of hands that they probably are holding. If you know how to gather informationwith your action in a hand, this also helps narrow down what hands they could be holding.
