Hey,
again, I am quite new at this stuff and have not played ANY cash games yet but will be very soon. I have a question about Rakebacks. I think I understand the whole concept, whereas each single pot pays the site....but for example....if I was in a cash hand, and won,and lets say the total pot was $20.00 (I will be playing on PS) how much would I actually take in? $19.00 or $19.50 or something like that???

"rake" is the percentage of the pot that the poker site takes for each hand. at stars, the rake is 5% (and doesn't exceed $3 if there are 6-9 people playing). so for your example of a $20 pot, you would take $19 and stars would take $1.

"rakeback" is when you get to keep a certain percentage of the rake after you play the hand. in other words, you don't have to give up the entire 5% (or whatever it is) rake, which means more money for you! unfortunately, there is no rakeback program for stars. ftr has put together programs for other sites though, check it out by clicking one of the rakeback links in this post.

oh yeah ... the info regarding stars and their rake in my post assumes you're playing NL

Im still unclear of how the rakeback works. So, a % of the rake will be deposited back to a player's account at the end of the month?

What is the point of the thirt party in party poker? (how does the 3rd party make profit?)

Thx

I think you get rakeback on any hands where you pay rake. But I could be wrong too (one of us has to be!).

Each site has different rules about rakeback, but generally you get rakeback in any hand where;

1) You have seen your hole cards.
2) Rake is paid to the house.

That's it. So as long as you are sitting at a table and seeing hands and paying blinds, you earn rakeback on each and every pot that pays rake to the house regardless of whether you win it or fold your hand preflop without even paying a blind.

To be honest, anybody that it playing cash games regularly and NOT signed up to a rakeback deal is mad. Most players attribute rakeback income to around 20% of their poker profits. To others, it's the difference between playing break even and profitable poker. Either way, if you aren't signed up to a rakeback program you are _throwing away free money_ every hand you play.

I play exclusively on stars. Are you saying i should move site because of rake back?

Tracker says the Rake part has over 1K so far...(and i have around 2.2K profits)

If so which site would be worth moving to for rakeback??

That is correct. These calculation questions have come up before which is why we added calculation paragraphs to most of our Rakeback Room Review Pages.

Here is what it says on our Caribbean_Sun_Rakeback_Review page:
Quote:
Ring Game Rake Calculations:
Players get rake back whenever they are dealt cards in a raked pot whether they play the hand or not. If a rake is generated in a hand then this is split equally among the players on the table that were dealt cards. The rake back is a percentage of the rake generated attributed to their playing, so if you have 10 players and all receive cards, and a rake of $1 is generated then each player will effectively have earnt $0.1 in rake. Since our players get 25% rake back then in this scenario our player would receive 25% of 10 cents or 2.5 cents even if he or she folded pre-flop.
We've spent a lot of time on our Rakeback section and it has some good info. Most rooms are like Caribbean where all you have to do is see the hole cards in a raked pot. Also, most rooms do not count tournament entry fees as rake(True Poker is an exception). Please read through the verbiage on our main Rakeback page, it explains the advantages of signing up through our links where rake-back is paid directly by the poker room, not by a 3rd party.

Ok so, say you have a $500 bankroll and you are getting 25% rakeback in the room you play at the moment. Should you stay where you are and get rakeback or leave and bonus whore?

It depends. In the long run rake-back can be better than a lot of the bonuses out there.

What are the terms and conditions of the bonuses?
Which has more fish, the existing room or the new rooms w/ the bonuses?
How much of a pain is it for you to switch rooms?
What other rewards do you get besides rake-back for staying w/ the current room?
