spoonitnow: i'm starting to notice that when i spend my time at the tables without much distraction that the quality of my time away from the tables improves
spoonitnow: maybe it's because i'm more attentive away from the tables since i haven't been mentally involved with those activities that i associate with "not playing", ie watching a movie or reading something
Thoughts?

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

I find that when I play a good session- discipined, focused poker, without distraction- I can rest easy with my play afterwards, instead of replaying all my fuck-ups in my head.
I think sessions w/ distractions result from boredom. Ask: are we grinding cash here or finding some entertaining way to pass the time? The latter is obviously horrible for the roll.

Interesting.I take a slightly different approach. Instead of poker affecting your life, try to think how your life affects your poker game.
Whenever I have a good rational day(like do everything without procrastinating, study/ house shit/clean up the yeard/ give my gf orgasm more then once) after which I can just sit down, take a deep breath with a sence of honest accomplishment- I know I will play good poker because I've already taken care of everything else and can concentrate fully without any subcouscious thoughts in the back of my mind.
If I just do shit halffast, I will play half fast. The quality won't be the same because I won't feel like I can fully concentrate on poker. Feeling incomplete or bad about about the stuff I have to(or had to) do will always be in the back of my mind.
Conclusion= be as rational and honest as you can in life.It will most likely show in your poker game. Does in my case.

Whoa, spoon - this one is way too deep for the Beginner's Circle. Poker is a much bigger part of your life than mine, so it can affect (and be affected by) your life much more readily.
I have found that certain life activities (reading and running) are complementary -- combined they energize me and give me more focus and energy for other activities (like work).

I just read an article about how a run before grinding can help your focus at the tables and keep you from tilting.

My personal one is a strong link between how I run and how I feel about myself.
