I am trying to build up a bankroll at GamesGrid playing the nickle talbes to start, but I have a few questions about setting goals for myself.
I started out with $40 in giftcards, and set myself a goal of $100 for the first day. I got just over my goal then decided it was late and I should goto bed. The next day I gave myself a goal of $200. I reached my goal around midafternoon. Now that I have hit my goal plus some, do I stop playing for the day? Do I set myself a new goal for the day? What is the real point of goals anyways? I know they are good for staying on track, but do I use them as stopping points, or take a break point? For you guys out there that set monetary goals, isn't just playing your best game all the time good enough? Do you stress and get looser when your not reaching your goal?
If I stick with setting myself goals, how should I structure them? Maybe a few examples would help, knowing that I have ~$200 to start with.
Thanks
- Tyler

Holy crap!..........that is a ridiculous run at the nickel tables. That is just ridiculous.
I think goals based on amount of $ won per day is a very bad idea. You ARE going to have losing days, and weeks. And it might cost you your entire BR trying to reach your goal in such a short time span.

Once I got up around $100 I 2 or 3 tabled, throwing in a .15/.25.
Possible goals I should set for myself?
try to double every week until $500? then rethink my goals?

I have been thinking about this. I play 25NL at Party. Do you think this would work...
Up $50 (two buy-ins), quit.
Down $25 (one buy-in), quit.
1:30 playing time reached, quit.

That doesn't work. Never cap your winnings. Play at a table until you no longer have an edge either because of stronger players coming in, fatigue, tilt....etc.

For the original poster, your goals are unattainable. You want to set a monthly goal at a minimum, and even then there will be variance in how much you make each month.
Poker is a longterm game, how you do in a day, a week, and even a month can often be irrellevant to how well you are actually doing.
My goal is to make another $4400 by the end of summer so i am properlly bankrolled for moving up in stakes. This is a good time scale for your goals to be based on.
Also, Mgobluefb, you should probably read this:

Assuming you are a winning player, you make money by playing hands. Not by winning or losing money on any given day. The only reason you should stop is if you aren't able to play well. So if you feel that you can't play well when you have won 2 buyins, lost 1 buyin, or played for an hour and a half, then you should stop, but you wont make as much money.
