I've never seen this mentioned anywhere, but do you guys keep your PT window up on the screen where you can see it? I'm finding it may be a bad habit since I'm on a downswing, playing bad or variance. I spend way to much time watching my amount won box and not enough time analyzing the plays at hand I think. I'm not sure how much it may be effecting my game, but it must, no? What do you leave up while playing? If you are watching your PT, what do you watch for. Yes I have my Hud running, do I need to have PT on the screen?

I don't think you can ever really learn anything about yourself by studying your PT stats as you play - the sample size will always be too small (I played 17/10 the other day for 1500 hands - does this mean I had suddenly become a frightened nit? No, I was getting cold decked on aggressive tables).

What I do do is make notes on regulars by checking their stats in quiet moments, checking whether they use position, whether their aggression is consistent or much higher, say, on the flop; checking how often they win at showdown etc.

Something I found good for this is actually opening another PT, It allows you to look at the players stats without worrying about the hand importer.

i find myself checking this too often also. i dont leave PT up, but i pop it up every 15 min or so to see how im doing. I agree that this is a bad habit because it forces you to think about results throughout the session. Ive tried not looking at it until the end of a session, but im just to curious

I only check my PT stats after a session. During the session I only look through HH of big pots and check my opponents PT stats on the pop-up window.

I checked them way too much today. **sigh**

I usually probably look 10 times in a 1k hand session. I like to know if I'm winning/losing, at what tables (since I top-off so much it's hard to tell) and for what amounts.

Poker is all about making money which is why we look. I see no problem in looking.

I would have to forget it's there to look ten times. I'm talking on two screens I have 4 tables on one and PT, vent and the poker lobby on the other. Always open and never blocked, so I can look to see how almost every hand effects my roll. I basically see it update almost every minute it does unless I'm involved in something else at the time.

I think it's natural to be curious about the +/-$ aspect. But I also like PT for checking how many hands I've played, because often I have hand-targets rather than time-targets.

Yeah, I use the HUD too, but PT stays minimised on the task bar importing hands all the way through the game. I don't need the distraction when I am playing and I sure as hell don't need it to tell me if I am up or down.

The HUD is good enough for what I need it to be (GT+), it doesn't relaly need to put out any more info for me, so I can spend more time analysing the hands being played.

It is pretty sweet tho after a big win to see how much your total winnings jumps up by... Not sure whether its good or bad but it does give me a little confidence boost. It does suck when you see it and its down, maybe ill get rid of it and see how i like it.

I check it too often. The confidence boost that comes from playing a winning session doesn't outweigh the "chase your losses"-mentality that comes from losing, IMHO. I try to not look, but I cant help it.

I have to look for reasons I said. I'm sure the majority of us top off our stacks and if we are 4+ tabling it is difficult to determine where we stand on a table. I top-off so much sometimes I lose a buyin on a table and have no idea that it happened. I like to keep the session tab or game notes tab open moreso than the general screen.

I do have my BB/100 stat on every table. I think this is ok for knowing that your winning or losing and maybe don't need the PT. It can help when you think you might be spewing on what seems like a good table. I find I will call a lot to play hands with bad players but if I'm down 55BB/100 after 35 hands, I may be playing a little to much. I tried it last night for a bit, about 300 hands, I thought I was playing much better than it said. I was up about $30 when I thought I was up a buy in or so.

If I can hijack this thread a little bit, how often do you guys have PT set to check for hands? I have it set for every 3 minutes, sometimes I will move it up to 5 or 7 in tournaments.
On moving up, properly rolled:

I think this will improve once you get back to working and stop being so results oriented in your poker game.
