So here's a thought that could become important, it's against PokerStars' rules to view PTR at any time ever.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

if you have even just a few $k on a site, it's not worth it to even remotely mess with T&C

PokerStars - Third Party Tools & Services - PokerStars Poker Room
Q Are you going to confiscate the account funds of somebody running a prohibited tool or service?
A While we reserve the right to confiscate the funds of somebody running a prohibited tool or service , we are not going to do this lightly. We want to educate our players - not punish them. However, we will confiscate funds if a player shows a consistent pattern of using prohibited tools and services after being warned, or if a player attempts to bypass our detection measures.

Bump.
Just a reminder that using PTR at any time is cheating on PokerStars.
You've just got to decide if you're going to cheat or not, no matter what your excuse is.

I guess we're all banned then, because really, who's never visited PTR? I don't really see much of a difference between just innocently viewing PTR and personally using tracking tools like HEM and PT. I know we only track the hands we play, but still. Maybe Stars should somehow block PTR from datamining their site? Just a thought...
So what happens to the thousands of retards that buy HH blocks from PTR?

Bah they must have just changed it.. I only go there to check the leaderboards and to look at my own rating. Makes sense though if people are dling hand histories.
- Q. Some prohibited programs listed above are internet web sites, especially those revolving around datamining. What steps do you take to stop their use?
- PokerStars believes that it is best to take action against these services at the root. Consequently, we are continually improving our software to stop the datamining of our games. In addition, PokerStars reserves the right to take legal action as it deems fit against those services that maliciously and repeatedly breach our Terms of Service.

I don't see how the sites can stop them from collecting data. The only thing they can do is not let observers watch the table action? That's not going to happen.
So what are the solutions?
1. Ask PTR nicely not to sell hand histories?
2. Hire the A-team to go shut them down?
3. Scan players HM or PT databases and warn then ban anyone who has a significant number of hand histories in which they did not participate?
4. Ban the use of a HUD.
5. Realize that a ton of HHs don't really help or hurt good players and just allow PTR to exist?
It seems like 5 is the only thing that makes sense?
We live in the information age, and people will just have to adjust to the nature of poker as it exists today. The only people that PTR hurts are the coaches who don't get students due to their crappy graph and fish who are getting bumhunted endlessly. And who cares about them anyways? Its not like we need PTR to spot the fish at the table.
