Hey guys I know this isn't a very difficult situation, but because I believe there are leaks in my game in spots that don't go to showdown, I figure I should just start posting a few hands that fit the category and initiate some discussion.
Most of the time people just post hand histories of big pots they lost, but ignore the small ones. IMO the small ones are constantly re-occuring situations, so f'in these up multiple times in a session could be just as costly as getting stacked in one hand. Even if the line I took here was okay, I'm sure as hell there would be a way to make this situation more profitable.
Okay so here we go, villian just arrived at the table and he waited for his blind. He bought in for max and had auto-top up on. So far he is sounding like he knows a little bit about poker, hand selection and so forth, so even though he is unknown, I'm guessing his raising range is fairly standard from ep. This was his first hand, and he opened for a raise:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (8 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
Button ($6.56)
SB ($17.19)
Hero (BB) ($5.77)
UTG ($6.56)
UTG+1 ($10)
MP1 ($4.09)
MP2 ($10.32)
CO ($14.62)
Preflop: Hero is BB with 6 , 6
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $0.20, 5 folds, Hero calls $0.15
Flop: ($0.42) 7 , 5 , 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.30, UTG+1 calls $0.30
Turn: ($1.02) 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.80, 1 fold
Total pot: $1.02 | Rake: $0.05
I decided to donk out here, but I was wondering if maybe a c/c or c/r'ing the flop would have been a better line. I decided to avoid c/r'ing though because I didn't want to stack off with the OESD. As for the turn lead I think I could have sucked him in with a smaller bet - if he had an overpair, maybe even just an ace. How is the bet sizing on the turn? I feel like it should have been smaller. Or could I have checked the turn to fake the flush draw and then represent on the river? In this situtation, although kinda basic, I felt like there was probably a better way to gain value out of this spot.

This hand definitely looks like the villain had AQ or AK and missed the flop. I don't like his flop call but I see it all the time when I'm playing multi table grinders that play ABC poker at 5NL. And I can almost always push them off their hand on a flop like this by betting like I mean business. I think he gave it up at the turn because with your almost full pot bet, you gave him no pot odds to suck out an A or K/Q on the river.
I think a smaller bet on the turn that would've given him pot odds to call it for a broadway could've gotten more value out of the hand.

It's hard to imagine him bluff raising this turn card no matter how small you make your bet. I think overpairs would've raised this flop since it's wet as fuck and you donked (looks like a draw, at least in my experience) and he's not suddenly gonna decide to bluffraise when the 4card straight hits. Typically here i would risk checking back the turn to try and get him to bluff or herocall a river bet. I'd bet 2/3rds pot on all non-heart rivers if it got checked through or c/c on a heart. Hard to extract much from spots like this tho when OOP, that's why position is so sexytime.
