Last night I saw the flop with two others.
I had a nut flush draw and I read that my opponents had decent hands.
I was out of position and checked every street including my 5th diamond on the river.

I called each of the two bets prior to the river. The bet on the flop was one third the pot size (justifiable call). The bet on the turn was the size of the pot - here's my justification: I knew these guys were going to keep pushing their chips into the middle. To call the turn bet, I would have had to call $5. The pot at the end of the hand turned out to be $35. 5/35=14%. Odds of me hitting the diamond on the river = 18%.

Justified?

Why did you check the river?
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Because my two villains are not the type to check the river, it also gave them the impression that I didn't have the flush. So I let them try to steal it.

The guy on my immediate left had king high, (he's the type of player to steal pots as often as possible) he then went AI. The player to his left is the tightest player at the table but ended up calling the AI. I think they both thought it was a heads up match between them because I checked the river ( i was hoping for some aggressive play by them after I checked the river, which is what happened).

I ended up raking in the biggest pot of the night before it got down to two remaining.
