I'm hoping this is the best forum to post this in:
I have read Sklansky's book Small stakes hold 'em three times in the last six weeks. (My first real poker book.) It has improved my play immensely and I feel I have a good grasp on most of the material contained within. One thing that eludes me is the concept of Pot Equity. For some reason, the way he explains it doesn't seem to sink in. Can anyone else enlighten me on this concept? Especially the term "Pot Equity Edge" and when situations like this occur. I need a little poker theory 101 from some of the masters. Thanks.

One other question for the avid reader:
I have been playing equal amounts of Limit and NL. Any recommendations for my next poker literature purchase? I'm thinking either more Sklanski, Brunson's Super/System, or Cloutier's Championship PL and NL hold 'em.

Cant go wrong with Theory of Poker, or Hold-em for advanced players. Be carefull w/ supersystem, it is a good book, but has limited applications. I haven't read any of Cloutiers book's.

basically whenever it costs you less % of the pot than the chances of you winning, you have a pot equity edge and you need to push it.

for example, you have a nut flush draw against 4 opponents. you have a 35% chance of hitting. assuming these people are loose, and the board is coordinated for straight draws, almost all of them well call. when you bet, and all 4 of them call, you contribute 20% of your bet and their calls. but you will hit your flush 35% of the time. you have a 15% edge so you should push it.

pot equity is for being aggressive and betting, while pot odds and implied odds are for you being passive calling.
