Post subject: POSTING IMAGES

I have searched this site to no avail. Using terms like 'posting images'; 'how to post images', etc. all I get is thousands of returns with the word 'post' embedded in the text somewhere.
So, a legit subject line to benefit future searchers.
Now my question[s]: how does one post images to a thread; if an online image archive is necessary, which one would y'all suggest?

I was aware of the semantics of how to do it. Just curious about if it had to be from an online site other than direct upload.
