Hi all, my first post, love the site and the personalities.
Am relatively new, and trying to get my head around the concept of pot odds after the flop. Let me throw out an example to set up my questions.
Assume pot is 1000 after the flop, and lets just say 500 of it is mine for simplicity sake. I'm head to head, and I get a 500 bet thrown at me.
I understand about counting the outs, but what pot total do I compare my outs to? Is it the original 1000, is it the 1000 + his 500? Or is it the 1000 + his 500 plus my potential 500? Or even the 1000 +500 +500 less my original 500?

Ok, first off (and I'm not being pedantic here) but after you put the money in the pot, it's not yours anymore. It is important to learn this concept because it stops u becoming attached to pots and makes it easier to make laydowns, especially the tough ones.

It is the 1500 in the middle (the 1000 already there, plus his 500 bet)divided by the 500 cost to call, so u are getting 3:1 pot odds.

Thanks Staresy. Am going to reread that page on this site and go through my last tourney history to see how I did. I've kinda been operating by "feel" to this point and I know that ain't good.

Actually I do quite well with this. The money in the pot is something to be acquired, I don't feel attached to a portion of it. While I'm aware of what I just bet, its more from a standpoint of knowing how I'm presenting myself rather than any close emotional ties to my chips
When I was forming my question, that scenario popped into my head - that maybe pot odds had something to do with their prior bets vs mine. I see now thats not the case. Thanks again.
