familiarity is the key simply because it can tell you so much about your game!
check the tools of poker for helpful posts on how to use it otherwise just ask about and you'll get plenty of help.
Good move purchasing it by the way, +ev

Besides having statistical goals for your own play ("I'd like to be %19 VoluntarilyPut$InThePot") that you want to learn, you can use PT to see what hands are losing you money, and you can stop playing them.
The PokerAce ($) or GameTimePlus (Free) add ons give you headsup display right on the poker table top, with your opponents' tendancies. Say you've been playing with someone for a while, but haven't got down their style, and the person 3 bets your AQ preflop. GT+ will access the PT stats and show this guy wins 80% of hands that go to showdown and he only plays 12% of his hands. Fold. He has AA or KK. Or maybe his stats say he raises 12% of the time PF and sees 32% of flops, going to showdown only 15% of the time -- then stay in the hand and stay strong.
