Hello everyone, Ive been reading up on a poker book by Phill Hellmuth, and he keeps using the term "three bet" and "three bet" and Im having trouble understanding what this means.

For example Say you are playing $1/2 Limit and the Big Blind is at $1 and small Blind is at .50. Player "A" Calls, Player "B" Bets $1, Player "C" Raises $1..... Is this a three bet or a tow bet? Does the Original $1 Blind Count as bet 1 making Players "B" bet a "two bet" and Players "C" bet a 'three bet" ?

A 3-bet is exactly that. It is 3X the current betting limit. So with your 1/2 example, a 3-bet pre-flop and on the flop would be $3. On the turn and river when the bets double to $2, a 3-bet would be $6.

Is this definition correct then

Three-Bet
Raise a raise, that is put in the third bet; often followed by the name of a person. "He opened, I raised, and he three-bet me." "I opened, Sue raised, and Willie three-bet the pot."

Shouldn't The Definition read "RAISE A BET" and not "RAISE A RAISE" or am I just going crazy

I read that book too. It's just 'Phil-speak'. Personally, I have never heard anyone in the real world call it a 3 bet. lol.

Basically, Phil means that three big bets have been made in a given betting round. It is a significant event because, in many casinos, limit games have a maximum of 3 bets and raises for each betting round. Some Indian casinos allow 4.

For no limit games, the rule depends alot on the cardroom. Some allow unlimited bets and raises, some allow 3 or 4, and others still allow unlimited bets and raises when in a heads up situation.
