ok, if you're in the big blind with a crappy hand and no one raises, you of course play your hand in hopes for the better. but what if you get a crappy hand in the small blind? like 2/7 or something like that? is it worth it to put in the other half and just hope for some good cards, or is it better to just fold and lose your half-a-bet?

I only complete around 35% of the hands I recieve from the SB and that is already too loose. 72os luckily isn't one of them .

Don't play any hand from the SB that you wouldn't play from the button unless it's suited and there are a lot of limpers (unraised pre flop of course).

This advice is for limit, if this is NL I would probably only complete if it could make a big hand.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .
Barney's back . . . back again . . .

"Play your blinds less and your button more"
Here are some general things I keep in mind for the blinds/button.

Small Blind
I don't complete my small blind with a hand I wouldn't play from late position.
BUT if 5+ people outside of the blinds have limped in I'll complete my small blind with almost anything.
(Agree with Toasty on this one.)

IF at a 10 player table, 8 people limped before me, I would consider completing my small blind with absolute trash. You'd be getting almost 18-19:1 on your money at that point.
But if I don't catch a nut draw, or two pair I'm folding.

Big Blind
Also don't think twice about folding your big blind to a pre flop raise. The "I'm already in for one bet" mentality is a big leak in most people game.

If your trying to win 1+ big bets an hour, why throw away 1 in the big blind with a dominated hand out of position.

Button
If I'm on the button and there are 4+ limpers outside of the blinds I'll limp with alot more hands than I normally would. You've got the best position, nobody has shown any strength, and your starting with good odds on your money.
