This happens occasionally to me. Do you guys go ahead and fold here? Stacks are deep for me, the raiser and the first caller, I want to set my pair, but now EP raiser has a chance to reraise. Muck it, or hope he just calls?

Maybe hands that he doesn't reraise aren't worth trying to set against?

Actual results, I cold-call, EP reraises big, everyone folds, including the donk that minraised.

If they're smaller raises I generally try to stick my hand in the action too. But yeah when they're bigger ones like this I tend to back off for fear of being caught in the middle of KK vs AA. The way I look at it is even if the original raiser folds as if this case, who cares? You weren't going to set for sure anyway.

It's worth the risk of reraise behind you. That's because the perfect condition for pocket pairs looking to set are multiple confident opponents. The implied odds go through the roof in that situation, when you're lucky enough to afford the flop.

A strong reraise would fold me if I'm caught in between however. I think min re-raisers should be shot, since they accomplish nothing by doing it. Just keep porking them when they allow your pairs in. Then watch them bitch about it like children.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

If this is an aggressive bunch who like to bet all streets its an easy call. If these are tight players who melt away, its an easy fold - the ideal situation for this hand is that they both call the bet and you all see the flop with a $16 pot. Any time I play a set I look at my net payoff vs. my preflop bet. I typically average about 10-12x in 50NL and I'm not counting steal situations. Alot of it has to do with how well you can massage the pot. Any time I get over 10x net, I consider it a success.

Call, fold if the flop misses you. This is a perfect set situation.

Example:

Hero is dealt

Villain is dealt :Ac:,:As:

Villain raises ~3xBB (ring game) and I flat call, knowing he's got a high pocket pair

Flop is:

[blank][blank] (eight high)

Knowing he has an overpair I bet out about 1/2 the pot, and of course he pushes. The set holds up and I doubled up to $40

You only have to make this earn you $32 (8 times the $4 bet) when you hit the flop to break even, so thats not too hard when you're going into a $16 pot
