Any of the 3 are good. I voted SSHE because i never fully finished it and I would like to. Also.... I suck at ring.

HOH if youre a MTT or sng player.
Sklansky is u play ring.
Sklansky's book is much more 'knowledge' based imo, HOH only tells you things that experience will teach you anyway, whereas sklansky teaches you more subtle ideas.

I voted SSHE because I just ordered it from PS recently and I am changing my focus to cash games. HOH has been overdone as most people here have already read it, and TOP seems too advanced for beginners really or even intermediate players.

I'm a noob at poker and don't know any of the books that well, so any poker book would be great. I have a suggestion that we do an easier book first just to see how well this activity turns out. If we do the best first most players will not be interested in the books that come after. Whatever book is choosen give me sometime to obtain the book.
Does it help FTR if we buy the book though the amazon link? or is that just a helpful service to FTR members?
I hate learning so this is a good push.\

Can't hate learning and succeed at poker. Gotta shake that
I don't know about the amazon links... I imagine they benefit FTR in some way.

I'm about 1/2 way through SSHE.
FWIW, it is geared to LimitHE. The concepts are still valuable, but, for me, mostly NL player, making the mental shift is an exercise. I'm constantly filtering the information -- "How does this apply to NL? Does it apply?"
Good info, though. I'll join in if you pick this book.

I voted SSH, but it's the only one I've read as of yet. Is TOP really that difficult to a noob if he is getting alot of the theories and issues being posted about, or is there some other book I should get first to ease into the more difficult ideas of TOP.

there's nothing wrong with reading ToP and not understanding it.
HOH is great - but it's essentially dumbing down the concepts of ToP and showing you how to apply them specifically to tourneys. Really, I could make that statement about any poker book I've read. ToP is THE book.

Theory of Poker is on its way courtesy of PokerStars, Ive gt quite the poker library going now. After rethinking this, I think TOP will be a big addition to my game, even if I cant fully apply all of its concepts, and as Im starting to get more and more serious about improving, I am looking forward to this discussion.

Bought it with FPPs, won a satellite that gave me like 4000FPPs so I used those to get two books, SSHE and TOP

When do you figure we'll start this process? Any format in mind yet or are you still working it out?

HAH! Me? Plan?
No... I have some ideas. Probably have something tentatively lined up early next week. I'm thinking that not this coming week, but the following, I can really get it rolling. Depends on what the higher ups want. Getting a new forum around here takes some planning. I'll be ready to go by then. Whether the site will be or not, I do not know.

Theory it is. I've segmented the book up. We'll actually be tackling 2-3 chapters a week, over ten weeks. I've segmented it so that the average reading per week is around 25 pages. I don't think that's too unreasonable. Still working out a format... but go ahead and grab the book if need be.

Sounds good, 25 pages is very reasonable. Any idea on when this will start?

Depends on if and when we can get a new Forum set up. Still hammering out details, but I'd like to start the week of April 2nd.
