lets assume you have
j-8 offsuit
limp in
board comes j 6 2 rainbow
you have top pair
now lets say you have j-8 offsuit again
board comes A K J
you know have to over cards higher than your pair.
hope this helps

Overcard: A card of higher rank in the hole when compared the the cards on the board. EG. AK is 2 overcards when the flop is 10,5,2.
Overpair: A pair in the hole that is of higher rank than the cards on the board. QQ is an "overpair" on a flop of J92.
Top pair is top pair. It is when your hole card matches the highest ranking card on the board. Eg. You hold AK. Flop is A23. You have top pair and top kicker also known as TPTK.
