Do you ever overbet the pot?

If so, why?

If not, what runs through your head when facing one......

Overbets, in my experience are made by people with decent hands who are terrified of being outdrawn, their only defence in their mind is to kill the pot.

-ev in my opinion. And I almost never do it.

sometimes done with a monster to look like a bluff, or as a large value bet if your opp is a complete calling station.

Overbet? Yes. Of course. That's why they call it "No Limit".

Why?
Because either:
i) I don't want to be called and I think they're less likely to call a bigger bet.
ii) I want them to call and I think my expectation is such that it justifies the bigger bet.

If you arbritratily limit the amount you can win by the amount in the pot then that's seriously -EV.
Blah blah Op Blah blah

I overbet the river sometimes with unexpected monsters if the pot is like 3BB's or something.

Overbetting the river also serves as anti - inducing bluff/pot control maneuver against right opponents (but don't do it more than twice in a session).

I've been having some success with this lately. Against 1 or maybe 2 others and you see someone trying to buy a card it is a really good strategy to get them to either fold or overbet themselves.

If they are drawing the worst thing you can do is give them the the pot odds to carry on? If you have already made your hand milk it, the odds are with you. Or even of you don't have a hand 1 v1 and you are confident of the read come the last bet.

I really like overbetting with monsters when I think someone will think it's a bluff and likely has a hand they like.

I overbet quite a bit lately, because people call it with a high enough frequency. It serves as waving a red flag in a bull's face vs the fish for some reason.

Overbet with a monster when you think they'll call, and overbet as a bluff when you think it'll make them fold a hand that they'd call a smaller bet with. The overbet bluff works against mediocre players who are kind of calling stations but they'll go away if you put enough pressure on them. The overbet with a monster works really well against complete fish.

It's also good to overbet the nuts when you are very certain someone holds a great 2nd best hand.

There are soooo many calling stations out there that I think you should replace your 'value bets' with your 'overbets'. Maybe I'm just saying to increase your value bets. You'll be suprised what ppl call with, so desperate to see another card or have a shot at the pot on the river.

Also, yes overbetting (b/c it seems like your protecting top pair, or bluffing) can be used hilariously and effectively v. Joe Poker (has a brain). For example, if you flop trips, good kicker- u can blast the pot and get called by the pair or an overpair. Or- flop the nut flush draw- then 3/4 pot it. Your giving yourself incorrect odds HU to draw out, but i believe your impied odds are right- check when the flush comes and money will roll in. The chaser / chronic bluffer will go nuts when that 3rd spade comes, bleieving u to have had tp or something.
