Okay so here’s the deal I played my first game about a month ago and became instantly obsessed with hold em. So I did a crap load of reading (thank you ftr) blew a bunch of cash on books (should arrive any day now) and made a $50 deposit into party poker. Any how I’ve decided nl is my game and have been breaking even at the micro levels for a few weeks.
Okay now on to my plan! I know all this stuff has been covered but I’m more writing this to get clear in my head what needs to be done and also so any of the many greatly superior players can mock the many stupid mistakes I’m inevitable goanna make.
Step1: Hard core micro till I make $100. I’m doing this so that I know that my game is profitable (even if only slightly) and also I’ll have more cash to capitalize on bonuses.
Step 2: Go from site to site bonus whoring and building my bank roll. Once I’m confident enough and correctly rolled I’ll start to move up limits. My main aim is so improve play bonus whoring just seems like the smart thing to do while I do this.
Step 3: Long term I want a $10000 bank roll… nuff said.
If anyone could point out any foreseeable problems with my plan it would be greatly appreciated I recently finished high school and more recently quit my job so I’m currently bumming around at home doing nothing with my time so I should be able to commit the hours necessary. If theirs any interest I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress
Thanks for reading this crap

Mistake one. Depositing only $50 on Party poker. They have an excellent Deposit bonus, and you should have waited to deposti the full $500 and take advantage. Don't make that mistake again. Don't deposit anywhere without asking questions first. There is a lot of money to be made in deposits and reloads when you have money in your bankroll.
As a second tip, I will say to a new player. Do not download anymore poker programs and register with any other poker sites. You will get screwed when it comes time to get rakeback.
Play at party, build that roll and don't do anything but learn and win until you ask, it'll only cost you much needed cash at the beginning of your bankroll building adventures. Follow the Bankroll management posted in the beginner digest and if you haven't already, read every article in there.
Good luck.

The bigger mistake is that he is/was not rolled for the $5 tables.
PP offers every month a 15% reload bonus (up to $100 bonus = a $666 deposit). Therefor he should get a neteller account.

do not bonus whore at poker rooms until you´re properly rolled and skilled for 50nl. at lower stakes it´s a hardcore marathon to clear a big bonus like ftp or hollywood.
take your money to stars or evp or any other site that offers 2nl games, make $200 and play 10nl, start your bonus adventure with at least $300. BJ is a game of variance, too and you´ll be screwed if you put your entire roll on one bonus.

Welcome to FTR. Like XTR said, you want a decent bankroll before you can affectively bonus whore. $500 is probably the minimum to do it properly.

Alright firstly thanx for all the comments looks like I’ve got a long while to go until I begin any bonus whoring. Sorry for the length of this post it’s mostly me bitching feel free to skip to the last couple of paragraphs (my revised plan).
So it finely happened I went bust lol. I’ve been playing pretty much 24/7 since my first post focusing firmly on developing my game. Looks like my first few weeks of breaking even was beginners luck because I feel as if my games improved immensely in the last couple of days. I’d like to post a graph to show my progress but my trial version of poker office expired a couple hands after my first post so I downloaded the trial version of poker tracker but the first time I imported my hand histories it expired and the trial version can’t freaken open a database *cough*(dogey)*cough*. So I’ll give you an extremely vague overview of the demise of my bankroll.
The first couple of stacks I lost were completely due to stupidity. I think I had the same hole that most new players trying to play tight aggressive experience which is after waiting so long for a playable hand I became attached to the ones I did play and when a scare card came on the turn or river and my opponents betting indicated that I was beat I’d stare slack jawed at the screen for the every second allowed hoping against hope that by some miracle my opponents bluffing finally thinking fuck it and decided to roll the dice anyway. I quickly got over this (easy to do when it’s the blatant reason for losing so many chips) and I also got over a lot of other blatant holes I had. I really dig exploiting position and at this point I made some decent money just stealing pots.
Then I got consecutively unlucky in a few pots where my opponents managed to hit one of their outs (despite the lack of them and my aggressive betting) and so I lost a couple more stacks. I still won big pots on occasion but I lost more and at the end of this phase I had lost about twenty bucks overall. Also I read a few posts that really hit me about the dangers of trying to steal pots at this limit due to the amount of nutters that will call with anything so I pretty much stopped unless I knew someone could be bullied despite my previous luck with it because I can see how a few failed attempts can ruin hours of hard work.
So I started doing alright again very slowly winning pots and turned my loses into about ten bucks when all of a sudden I start to plummet again. The funny thing is that when I’m losing I feel as if I’m playing my best and improving the most (probably because I’m trying not to lose and constantly plugging holes). This losing streak lasted about two days and a half and by the end of it I had decimated my bankroll losing around 35$ putting me on a little over three bucks.
The next day I got a bit of luck and managed to double up a couple of times and continued to win pots and managed to turn my pitiful three bucks into twenty buy the end of the day. I now appreciate why you guys are always saying it’s a game of variance I went from two days of just not getting playable hands to getting monster after monster.
Alright finally today lost a couple stacks because I didn’t see a possible straight or flush and so I bet my three of a kind like it was the nuts. Tried to double up again with my last couple of bucks and now I’m bust… It’s been emotional.
I know I’ve lost but I’ve gotten a lot better its one thing to read all the strategies and stuff in all the posts but I don’t think (for me at least) any of it really sticks unless I play hand after hand and see WHY it works in play. I will beat you poker mark my words mwhahaha
Finally time for my revised poker plan.
1) I gotta get either poker tracker or office I’m still undecided which but I’m leaning towards office. My books still haven’t arrived but I’m not going to make another deposit until I’ve done a bit of reading. I started a poker journal because I keep plugging holes and then I start to forget earlier holes I put effort into plugging so hopefully this will curb that. Might try a few freerolls although my interest is in full ring cash games.
2) Micro my ass to $500 moving up when correctly rolled and proving that I’m a winner
3) Begin my bonus whoring adventure
I now its cocky to say this but watch this thread I will beat this freaken game even if its only this limit. Also might hit the casino for fun in a few days if its eventful I’ll tell yah how it goes. I look forward to posing in the beginners winning circle.

Yeah, don't let that bust bother you too much.
I started out with a similar experience last fall. I put $50 into FullTilt, and made the bonus, but eventually busted after a couple months when it seemed I could never get anything going. (Playing 10NL, I would double up one day, then lose $5 the next, and $7 the next. Obviously that catches up with you.) Even so, I felt like I was gradually improving my game.
After that bust, I put $50 into PokerStars. Lost $20 the first day. Busted a couple weeks after that. I was determined to get my bonus, though, and it took me two more $50 buy ins to finally do it. Also was determined to avoid tilt, so I got a little better at managing my bankroll and folding a hand when I knew I was beat.
Now I'm into Stars for $150 (plus my $50 bonus), but my bankroll is up to almost $400. Aiming for $500, when I plan to move up to 25NL, and will back down again to 10 if it doesn't go well. The main thing is that I feel like I am improving at each level I play. Like many have said on this site, it's a long-term project.
Good luck to you!

Well I’m back in the game. I went to the crown casino here in Melbourne for the first time yesterday and played in a freeroll they have. I came second (should have been first freaken ace on the river) so my bankroll is now $150 and I guess I’ll be making another deposit into party poker. I don’t plan on playing to regularly though not until I’ve finished my books.
