For a while now I've been basically sticking $50 in my Stars account now and then, playing for fun and not really being particuarly bothered about losing.

But I feel it's time to get serious.

I need a few pointers.

My official new bankroll is going to be $200-$300.

Once deposited my plan is to grind the 0.10c/0.25c or 0.25c/0.50c games and $5 single table SNG's, and $4 180 SNG's.

Does that seem like the kind of level I should be at?

Thanks.

If you are starting out with $200-$300 you really should stick to $.05/.10 NL and grind it out until you get your bank roll up to around $500 before moving to $.10/.25 NL. There shouldn't be anything wrong with throwing in an occasional $5 single table and $4 180 man sng.

It also depends on your experience and how much/well you've played before. You can get by at $10 NL ring playing the 19 hands while you learn(discussed in every other thread here in the beginners circle) but if you aren't very experienced you could blow through $200 fairly quickly trying to learn while playing too many sng's.

Dunno about SnGs but for ring the general rule of thumb is to have 20x the buyin. So for .10/.25 the buy-in is $25 so you'd need $500. As for pointers, best to browse this site, read all the strategy guides, read a heap of posts.. and then play for a bit, get a feel for the game and post some specific questions.

Good luck.
