Earlier tonight I was playing some $25PLO HU against a total noob/maniac. He was opening every pot PF and calling every limp/raise of mine. Before other players started joining I had already taken two stacks off of him in about 20 hands. He keeps reloading and it's like profitmania.
Anyways, to my point. Two retards sit with their huge $10 stacks (every pot is getting raised and re-raised between spwetard and me to like $4.25 PF) and start flaming this guy in the chat. Guess what happens...spewtard leaves. Yea, probably 2-3 more stacks in profit down the drain because two fucking noobies couldn't keep their mouths shut.
DO NOT BERATE THE BAD PLAYERS. I don't care how bad they suck out on you or how bad they play. I hope none of us do that kind of shit here. If you do, please stop, you're ruining the game for all of us.

I like to berate the regulars sometimes, if I think they are prone to tilt. Berating the fish is stupid and should be punished with waxing of the anoos.

One of the 1/2 regulars I've played a lot of hands with started berating a whale I was sitting to the left of the other night. The guy was a goldmine, running 92/22 over 100+ hands, min-donkbetting every flop and folding to every raise. I couldn't fucking believe the regular was stupid enough to say anything except "nh" or "tough luck" to him. But instead he kept telling him how bad he was and challenging him to a HU match. I was so pissed. I think it might have been b/c he knew I was in the best seat and he was jealous? As soon as the whale left I let him have it and left too. You'd think a regular would know better...

No, if you have a fish at the table, you do not call them a fish. Why do you want them to think they are playing bad, and then start playing tighter, or worse, leave.

I just said I dont do that, my point is insults dont bother anyone online, everyone knows what to expect when they play online poker. They probably realised they were losing money as opposed to getting emotionally drained by being called a nOOb or a fish

I used to go with the "dont tap the glass" but that's really also telling the fish that I think he's a fish. So now I tell the berater to fuck off and STFU. That helps accomplish both my goals; make the fish feel welcome and make the wannabe shark more upset/tilted/shut up.

Marty, I'm surprised this isn't obvious but...
1. Most people don't like people coaching or insulting them. Why risk scaring away a fish by doing either? Fish are often there just to gamble and have a good time. Telling them how bad they are doesn't help them do the latter.
2. When I first started playing online, I thought I was good. But I wasn't. I donated for a few sessions before I realized it wasn't due to bad luck. If players had been berating after bad plays during those first few sessions, I probably would have figured it out quicker.

He probably did. But one time out of five, ten, fifty or a hundred he left because that asshole was giving him the speech. Or worse, he decided to read up on strategy. The point being that there is nothing to gain by berating them but potentially a lot to lose.

c'mon guys. we all know better. we also know how hard it can be to keep our mouths shut, and i suspect we all make a boo-boo now and again.
but we should be ENCOURAGING the fish to stay, not driving them off. make the table fun. be light, witty, funny. congratulate him when he sucks out with "man, that took balls, i could never do that" while inside you are laughing your ass off.
i read an article i may try to find, but i suspect we've all read it, by daniel negreanu stating that he made most of his bankroll in toronto by playing with doctors and lawyers. they came for the FUN, not the "you are so stupid" that they found in the casinos. daniel, and a couple of friends, made sure that the fish came back, and actually let them win some hands, because they KNEW this was their bread and butter, and they had a hard enough time finding profitable players as it was.
news flash...it can be even tougher online. players move in and out of tables so quickly. and with the US regs, less are able to redeposit when they go busto.
please, like everyone else has said...KEEP YOUR BIG AUTHORITATIVE MOUTHS SHUT.

Some loose passive fish stacked another loose passive fish yesterday at one of my tables after he made a set against the other guys top pair.
Fish1 goes allin on the river.
Fish2 thinks and calls with TPMK
Fish 1 rakes a tasty pot before saying "Lol you suck. Youre so *^$$. What a moron etc etc for about 3 minutes.
Fish 2 clicks sit out.
Fish 1 says "dont come back".
Fish 2 leaves.

This is an ignorant opinion. One that leads to problems that we generally avoid here at FTR. Insults do bother some people. Why introduce negative feelings into an environment where people are trying to have fun, especially if that person's fun includes giving you money.
