I started playing online NLHE at Stars again after about 6 months off and it seems like the overall skill level of players is way up. I'm playing .50/1 and 1/2 and it seems like there's 4-5 rocks at every table?! Is it just me? Just Stars? WTF mate?

well stars has gotten a lot bigger since you took off due to party's traffic going down the tube. i never played 100nl at stars though, and i've never played 200nl period. how many hands have you gotten in already? maybe you just hit all the rocks the first few times? at 100nl, i'd think there would still be plenty of fish to go around.

About ~4k hands I believe. It's strange, it seems to be the vast majority of players are playing TAG. Maybe I am just spoiled with the drunken card room donkeys? I've been table hoping like no other, even when I snag a table that advertises near 40% to the flop, when I sit down the table is full of solid players. I saw a discussion on this below; I have noticed that the fish you do find tend to buy in 50$ or something which isn't all that optimal. Maybe, I'm just out of the league now.

To be completely honest with you, the competition on stars is just better all around.

Play the fringe sites man, bodog is great for big schools of fish.
Check out my self-deprecation here!

I might be wrong and if so disregard this comment as I am not at 200NL yet but, if your playing 6max and its full of nits, shouldnt it be great to play a solid LAgg in position. Maybe Ive been watcing to many cardrunners videos....dunno....open to discution i guess.

In theory, wasn't working for me though. Given, I don't play that way much and am probably no better than the rest of you at pulling proper LAGG off.

Totally agree, it really seems that Stars has stepped it up. Bodog eh? Anywhere else?

i hear battlefield a little, but just keep practicing table selection, also. you will come around. with a volume into the low 100's at stars...they cant ALL be solid players.

moreover, practice SEAT selection. after 20 hands or so, you should have a feel of the table. if you are not to the left of the aggros and to the right of the rocks...leave and find another...it just takes more patience. but, while trying to find the right mix, watch the starting hands these guys are still taking WAY too far. its still pretty rediculous.

they will give away their money.

edit: also, if you find yourself on a "rocky" table, play quite loose-passive pf. then, crush them post flop with your funky two pair and draws.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
