Hello all...

Maybe a dumb question but I'm curious anyway. Is it possible for a winning microstakes player to make say, $300-$500 per month playing at the lowest NLHE limits (NL2 or NL5)? If so, is it even practical?

$500 at 5nl is 100 buyins. If you play 100,000 hands and have a winrate of 5ptbb/100 (5BB/100 or 10bb/100... same thing), then you are making $500.

A winrate of 5ptbb/100 is relatively attainable at the micro-stakes and you can even get higher if you are decent. However, getting 100,000 hands per month is a different story. it's possible, but you have to figure you get around 60-75 hands per hour per table at a FR table. So you will need to play a good deal of tables for multiple hours per month.

So while it is attainable, it is relatively impractical. It will be alot of work for the $500, when you should just move up in stakes correctly. It's a whole lot less work to make $500 a month at 25nl-50nl than at 2nl-5nl. So when you get a chance, move up when possible.

Why not start at micro then move up. and if you only want a few hundred a month, then stop at 25 or 50 nl??

Technically yes, it's possible. But why would you want to? Good grief. If I had to play 100k hands per month I'd shoot myself. I love the game, but let's get real.

And this

Both really good points in my opinion. You won't be making enough $/hour to make cashing out at anything less than 25NL worth it.

While possible, you would be living in a tent and playing poker 24/7....IMO.

hey. there are reasonable justifications for withdrawing your 5nl roll.

Like if your wife says: The only way you can go to vegas is if you use your p-stars money to offset some of the gambling/hookers/stripclub action.

cha-ching. Cash out.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

My goal is to continue to progress as my bankroll permits but was hoping a decent side income was possible at these levels while I was grinding through them. Thanks everyone.
