Decided to put this up as a way for people to put general stuff which doesn't deserve a thread. There's no real place to just put poker chat/news/comments/rants anywhere, so hopefully this will be it.

Anyway, gonna kick this off with two things

1. International Stadiums Poker Tour. Anyone been following this? Website is http://www.ispt-poker.co.uk/ , there's a thread in Tournament Poker but you might have missed it. It's been a massive cock up so far, started with a €30m guarantee, that was then cut, then escrowed, then it disappeared and now they claim it never existed. No one knows where in Wembly it's going to be held, or how many people will bother to fly London, or how the payouts will work. Classic example of how not to run a poker tournament/business

2. Going to post a thread on this because it's really serious, but PartyPoker is testing segregating players based on winrate. Confirmed by PartyPoker:

It's also happening at NL100, NL200 etc. Not a good idea to piss off regs, especially when they've already said they're removing Palladium Elite (the top VIP level) making rakeback less. It'll be interesting to see what happens but unless it's backed up by a VERY strong marketing campaign I can't see how it's going to do anything else than ruin their traffic. How do you even advertise something like that?

i can't understand this - the only effect that it could have is the 180 degree opposite of the one intended - "Hey look! we've got all the fish in a little pen for you, so no need to table-select! Just log in with your new, bogus account and off you go!"

I assume to get grouped with losing players you have to be a losing player, when you start winning you are no longer allowed to play in them games with just losing players.

DoubleJ is saying then you just make a new account, enjoy the grace period while the system works out if you're a winning or losing player and then when it does rinse and repeat

The reason everyone thought it was for losing players too was this term in their T&C

3. Rating Manipulation:
Players intentionally losing games on low stakes tables to keep their rank at a lower level than it would otherwise be."

But apparently that only applies to Backgammon and it's gpoing to be removed.

Award winning poker operator Dusk Till Dawn (DTD), owner of the largest poker venue in Europe, has agreed a deal to licence, operate, market and guarantee ISPT Wembley. Simon Trumper has been appointed as ISPT Tournament Director and will be assisted by DTD’s card room management. As part of the agreement, DTD is guaranteeing a minimum of €1 million to the winner - regardless of the number of runners, with a maximum of 20% taken out of the prizepool for first place, leaving 80% to the remaining places. The prizepool will need to reach at least €5 million to avoid any overlay which equates to 16,000 x Day 1 online players at €270+€30 plus 250 x Day 2 direct buy-ins at €2700+€300.

Concerning the party poker thing, that's nothing new, Titan was doing the same thing when I was stupid enough to deposit with them a few years back. You got access to "beginners tables" for a set duration (one month?).

Of course permanently segregating based on winrate rather than "seniorship" would be utterly stupid because better players would move to fishier horizons. I don't see the point anyway, as "natural selection" occurs anyway as you move up stakes.

At least you know that you get access to "Beginners' Tables" for a set amount of time and they made it clear. As opposed to just one day hiding half the softest NL100 tables and hoping no one would notice...

Party used to do the beginner's tables thing for a short period of time after you first made your account and deposited, and I was okay with that because it made new players feel welcome. I would assume that it would make them more likely to deposit again once they lost it all as well.

I did, and they work out similarly to other tools that find optimal exploitative ranges based on how opponents will react. They were pretty neat.

Right now I'm working on learning the Nash equilibriums for bubble situations, and the plan is just to adjust from that based on player tendencies like I do for HU push/fold.

Yes, like David say, if they do it like IPoker, and make beginners tables, people can decide for themself. I'm starting to get fed up with Party Poker anyway.
The reason I can't play the FTR tour is that FTR have a .com address, and that is against the Danish Poker law, even though all other places allow me to play those .com private tours. Besides that, there's the fact that you can't withdraw unless you have made a deposit within the last 6 months, and then there's the inactivity fee. Party Poker have always, and will always be ****

Why are you getting into these instead of real pokerz, if I may ask?

Talking about bots, maybe it's old news, but I have only recently found out that LAG (26/22 or so) bots where discovered on iPoker a few months/years back, capable of beating 400 and 600nl for a good winrate.

It's not that I like having bots in the games, but from a technical and artificial intelligence standpoint, that is pretty interesting and impressive.

I put a hundo on Bovada last week to mess around with, played a handful of days at $5nl HU and $5 PLO 6max and moved up to $10 this weekend once my roll hit $200. Sitting at $230 now. It's fun just to kill some time and play some cards again, haven't really played since Black Friday, maybe 1-2 random $5 home games.

Revolution are implementing the same thing as Party, categorizing players by skill level and preventing some players playing against other players.Intertops are first to announce it and Lock have also confirmed it.

Getting increasingly annoyed at the ISPT coverage. Oh, DTD came in and saved the day, this tournament is going to be great, I hated the idea before but now DTD and Rob are involved it's going to be amazing and I'm definitely going to play it, blah blah fucking blah

The ISPT was run by a bunch of crooks and still is. They've dealt awfully with just about every issue that's been raised, blatantly lied several times, and now they're effectively being bailed out by DTD who will run the event but the original organisers will still get most the profit and credit and it's still an ISPT event.

does nothing at all.

Also, it keeps disconnecting then reconnecting and making a series of monotone beeps.

Annoying to say the least.

You spelled it wrong (an extra t before river), and you can turn the sound off in the settings
