Over the past week or two I have really committed to making notes about what people play with when I sit at a table and their style of play. As a result I have found myself making calls I might not normally do after glancing at my notes about people at the table and what they have played with formerly. It has certainly paid off more often than not recently. Yesterday I made $20 (at .10NL) off of one guy because I called all-ins twice with J's and Q's, overcards on the board and he had a low PP and J9s - because I knew he normally raised, called and bet with crap hands hoping to catch river cards.

I would imagine most of the successful people here take notes while they play even if it's on the computer?

I take notes. I never thought I was very good at reading people but I am surprised at how much I rely on my reads to make moves. Like when I play the first several hands at a table I often don't know what calls to make because I don't know the people. That tells me that I rely on my reads more than I thought. Yes, it makes a difference.
Stakes: Playing $0.10/$0.25 NL

Exactly what kind of notes do you take. Does anyone on this board have a template or somekind of format they use that works well. I can see it being very helpful, but I just don't quite know where to start. I imagine I am not alone here, but it just seems like you could write so much, but have so little space on some people. If someone has something that works for them, would you please share it ?
Thanks

I try to keep track of tight/loose.
Likelyhood you can push them off a pot. (foldability)
I keep track of hands that they show and what position they were in when they used it. Like if someone shows A2 from EP, etc.
Agg/passive preflop and postflop.
Stakes: Playing $0.10/$0.25 NL

I play limit more than NL so i use notes like: 3-bets only with nuts, passive but cannot be pushed out, calls down with at least bottom pair... stuff like that. I only mark notes after I see a trend
