Who on this site is actually playing poker professinaly? And how much do you make? You don't have to tell me the exact figure, just round abouts ie 20ish k 50ish k over 100ish k?

I play semi professianly, i won't quit my job but im pullin in about 20ish k a year. Im trying to bump that up to about 40ish k this yr, but that means i have to put in alot more hrs. I don't know if i can pull that off but i hope i can. I play on party poker, and i don't use exsentrik as a handle. I rather not say what i use, worried about the tax man. Also i play in usd and i live in canada so the exchange is nice.

What about you lot?

jackvance is an unknown quantity at this point
Just curious, if you will: how many hours per day do you play for your 20k/year? I'm mainly interested in how much per hour (on average) you make, just as a reference.

And what limits? If don't mind sharing this info ofc.

A friend of mine is good for €2000 a month if he would play it professsionally, about $2400/month which would average to somewhat less than 30k/year. Problem is he is a bit unstable.. blew his entire €5k bankroll (including his €3k winnings from an MTT in Paris) in one day, the day his dog died, not too long ago.

I have been playing for about 35k hands now, in full ring cash games on Party Poker. Over all this time, I have been winning 8bb/100 on average. If I didn't have a real job and school and had time to play all the time as a job, at the current stakes I play I'd do alright.

8bb/100 Six-tabling $50NL full ring, 60 hands/hr/table

360 hands/hr * (8bb/100 hands)= $36/hour.

30 hours/workweek *$36=$1080 per week

52 weeks/yr = $56160 per year not including tax.

Of course this is all assuming I could maintain 8bb/100 in the long run at NL50 (I 'm sure its possible).

I play sit and goes, 30 to 50 people. Its pretty profitiable for me. i end up in money about 40 percent of the time. when i first started i was in the money about 10 % of the time, but i noticed my leaks and fixed them. Im playing at 11s right now trying to make it up to 22s by the end of april if my bankrool can handle it.

My dad always got me awake early for special treats like fishing and hiking. Until i was 35 I only slept past 6AM if i was hungover real bad or screwed real fine.

I like it cause I am on East Coast. West Coast drunks are just losing their mettle.
Been playing money poker for 34 years and decided in 2002 to try that TX Holdem game on TV. Then found Pokerstars in Summer 2005. Still not an overall winner but i am on a good trend and nearly there.

you can't make money playing poker without keeping good records, IMO. You need to keep track of your bottom line, because it boosts your confidence when you are doing well, and encourages you to fix your leaks when you aren't doing well. If you don't keep records you are essentially playing blind.

Settle down. I merely noticed the math wasn't adding up. Your stakes + hours of play + ITM just doesn't tell a $20,000 story my friend. Nothing personal.

Maybe you do make that much. I'm probably wrong. Just seemed weird. Wanted you to explain why actually. How many MTT do you play in 15 hours a week? Do you mix it up with cash game? You're probably just missing information.

You'll have to excuse my attitude. I grew up in bad neighborhoods around hustlers and Con men. I'm no stranger to hollow jive. It just hit me that way. You hit my ghetto switch. I got ten kids to feed!

you are getting some static exsentrik for a couple of reasons.

1) making 20k a year playing 20 hrs a week in 11 SNGs is A LOT!! You need to average $20/hr to do so - which means you need to be averaging 2nd place in EVERY tourney you play.

2) you don't keep track of results which is not the sign of a winning player.

You might be an anamoly - if so, congrats. But I am not basing this post on the fact that I think I am a poker god. In fact, I am not. I have never made even $10k in one year (i am hoping this year will be my first) but a lot of that is because, just like you I play poker more for fun than for necessary money. So just like you, I don't track my results other than knowing how much I have made overall. In the end though - this is a leak. If you can't face that, than you are going to receive some flack.

Hey i wasn't getting upset lol

Let me clearify
I play sit and goes at party 30 an d50
Play at least 2 hrs a day on weekdays and 10 hrs on weekends thats a minium. oh forgot to mention i mutlitable 3 at a time.
So about 20 minimum to 40 sit and goes a week

The 30 people sit and go pays out top 5 and the 50 pays out top 7.

The reason i don't know my exact stats is cuz i pull the funds out as soon as i go 500 about my bankroll which is 550. I don't like having more than my nessary bankroll in there. But i ve gotten a few tips from this site tellin me to up my bankroll. I don't think i need to as of yet. But i am planing on moving up to 22s by the end of april. Untill then im goin to go back and forth between 22s and 11s if my bankroll can dictate it.
