Yes, I'm the goof-off that plays SNG's that I have 150 buy-ins for. It's a severely conservative gameplan, but it takes the pressure off, that's for sure.
Anyways, I've found a way to make that conservative plan fun & educational at the same time. Taking Paul Wasicka's advice (to try joint sessions w/ someone else), my wife started watching over my shoulder, asking about why/why not this or that particular move. She's a pretty decent player herself, has done well in live tournaments, and so we've started taking turns playing SNG's, watching each other play, and taking notes to ask each other after (not during!) the tourney.
It's turned out to be a lot of fun so far, and we've run a combined 73% ITM thus far (Only 130 games, but the sample size is always growing). Thoughts on effectiveness/waste of time? Cheers!!

Thats awesome that your wife plays with you, wish i could get the gf to be more interested... What stakes are you playing, as 73% itm is rediculously high, like double the usual.

I double checked the math, don't know how I got 73%.........it's somewhere in the 44-47% range, and we're playing pretty low fish-filled stakes on AP. It's so funny now, every time she makes a very basic ABC play and knocks a fish out (witch happens a bunch), she taps the glass and laughs.

redmanstl,
first, welcome aboard if that hasnt been done already.
second, awesome that your wife likes the game, too. most of ours think we need 1800BETSOFF.
third, i think its funny that you have 150+ buy-ins for the level you play. FINALLY, someone like me.
i carry a roll of about $1300, at the moment, and LOVE smacking the fish around on the 10 NL tables!! granted, i used to play higher, but who doesnt love a table full of idiots? just cannot find the "no-brainer" poker at 50+ anymore.
oh well, had to say it.

I like your style......1300 to beat on the 10NL tables But you can see what I mean, then.....I never have to make a decision that has a huge (or even noticeable) impact on my BR......for that matter, if I do notice a downswing, chances are it took 6-7 OOTM efforts to get there, and that sucks!! Frees me up to do something like I did today.....focus in on one particular fish, wait him out, and DESTROY him. He had me out-stacked 4.5 to 1, and 23 hands later I had them all. Always fun to do that regardless of the stakes. Cheers!!

I think I know about what kind of answer I'll get for this, but I'll ask anyways....
At what point in terms of BR/stakes should we be looking into buying some sort of tracking software? I'm not sure really what to get (I know basically what PT does, etc.), b/c I'm not sure what system would be most condusive to helping out w/ a SNG grind like I'm in. Thoughts? Opinions? Discuss.

I'd be looking probably at 25NL, or when you want to get serious about poker.
Congrats on the wife btw. You must have an awesome wife if she is supportive/interested in poker.

to play 25NL responsibly, though, you'd probably want a roll of give or take $500, yes?

Grinding really does take a long time........I'm getting the hang of the 1 table SNGs and getting heads-up &/or 1st on a pretty regular basis. (5 games yesterday, two wins and a 2nd.)
I'm noticing more and more that when I bust out, it's MY fault. Very rarely (at least in this low of a game) will someone just flat out-play me, ESP. post-flop. TPTK is almost always good.......KK is ALWAYS dead with an Ace on the flop, b/c these guys play Ax like its a license to the pot. And the more I fold, the more I win, at least until we get short-handed & I've got this tight image that I can use to pick up stupid piles up chips, which is why I'm usually so healthy when we hit the bubble. Thoughts??

Last night - - - 8 tournaments, 7 cashes, 6 wins.
I've never run that hot before, but I know it's likely I won't again for quite awhile. What have you guys done after sessions when you felt like you could beat the world to regain some focus & stay attached to your goals?

Admittedly my main game is $100nl 6max, but when I play SNGs I play the $11s for fun with an $8k+ roll

Thinking about going to 10NL when I'm up over the $200 mark. Is that worth my time, or is camping out in SNG world a better use of resources?

If you have the patience and discipline to learn to play cash, then do so - the rewards are potentially greater (as is the variance) and you'll learn post-flop poker skills.

I can occasionally be seen on stars obliterating fish in 15+1 Omaha H/L SNGs with a 100k roll.
(I would play at higher stakes but there aren't any omaha SNGs at higher stakes so I just open 6 of them if I'm too smashed to play ring)
