I'm a brand new poker player. Always did well in home games in the past, but mostly because I have a knack for reading people -- as far as the game itself, I really didn't know SQUAT until I found this site...
I decided to do the "instant bankroll" promotion to learn the game, because naturally, I'd rather learn on someone else's dime than my own. However, after reading the GREAT bankroll posts from many here, it appears you should have AT LEAST 10 buyins to handle swings.
So, since instant bankoll set me up with $75, I'm assuming I should start off with the $5NL tables, and go from there.
Does anyone have experience with these? Good? Bad? Any tips?
As an aside, I can only give kudos to PokerSourceOnline. The customer service was amazing. Plus, uh, they give away free money.
Best,
EW

Start at the $5. It wont take you long to get the hang of it and then you can build your way up without having a big risk of losing your (their) money.
edit: This is even more important when you are first learning, because you are almost bound to lose. Make those losses at the lowest stakes possible. Once you can beat the game you can move up in stakes and recoup those losses very quickly.
edit2: You said you did well in your home game. Im going to assume that was a shorthanded no limit game (which it may not have been) so you are going to have to play much tighter if you want to go into full ring now. You can do really well at the low stakes tables by just playing the pocket pairs + AK,AQ, and AJ and KQ in position. Try and read as much as you can here and post a hand anytime you feel it could have gone better.

wtf... Aces in the BC?
Anyway, yeah looks like you have the right idea. Best advice I can give you is to play really tight and patient. Don't get too attached to Top Pair and basically set farm your way out of the micro levels. Also read all of Aokronglys posts. Find a post called "19 starting hands" and play those hands only.
Move up to 10nl when you get to $200.
