Just wanted to say hello, and thank all of the contributors and moderators of this site. I just started playing about 6 months ago, and under the expert tutelage of my semi-employed roommate, promptly lost about $600.
Luckily, he moved out, and I turned to FTR to continue my education. Since then, I've absorbed every strategy article, post, and other tidbits of information on this site. It's improved my game immensely- I've earned back my initial loss, and am now at over 6K! (I won the $20 rebuy 5K guaranteed MTT on Bodog twice this month.)
I still make a lot of mistakes, and my emotions occasionally get the best of me, but the solid fundamentals I've learned from FTR have made me into a winning poker player.
Looking forward to becoming a more active part of this community. Good luck, everyone. =)

Welcome El_Bandito!
Thanks for making the conversion from lurker to poster.
What finally made you decide to start posting? Can you give us any tips on what else our community can do to help convert more lurkers?

Dunno what made me post, really. As I became more obsessed with poker, I found myself blathering on with colleagues, loved ones, friends, etc. about the game. I'm quite sure I've convinced them all I have a gambling problem. =P Needed a support group, really.
I've been getting to know a lot of the same people from tournaments, and I enjoyed the sensation of cultivating an online persona. I wanted to get to know the folks at FTR that had taught me everything I know. I found the site through a search engine, looking for "poker strategy".
As for getting them to make their first post? *Shrug* If they like the taste of egg nog, they'll get around to it. Just wait for them to hit their first long rush- they will owe you all a "thanks" and an introduction.

Welcome to FTR!!! You were #9999. You almost won the prize.
I've found that talking to others about poker:
a) they are so fucking clueless it makes my ears bleed
b) they think it's gambling and I have a problem
Thank god for FTR, although I wouldn't have this "problem" if it wasn't for FTR.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Poker + proper BR management = an investment.
If buying shares is gambling then fair enough, so is poker.

Guess it's a matter of semantics. I like the stock analogy. Used to live next door to a day trader who worked out of his home, and god forbid you knocked on his door while he was holding a position. Kind of like when your grandmother calls while you're in the middle of a big hand.
Anyhow, my Bodog screen name is X_El_Bandito_X
El Bandito was taken already, but I've never spotted the imposter.

Poker is soooo gambling. Its just gambling with the odds instead of against them.
By the way welcome to FTR El_Bandito
