$3/$5 NLHE you've just sat down and have a $300 buy-in and haven't been very active.
The table is fairly deep with four players over $500 and a couple over $1k.
You make it verbally $20 with AK from MP.
2 reasonable players call.
SB is a rather loud kid who's been in about half the pots in the last orbit or so. He's got about half a dozen $100 chips and around $100 or so in $5 chips.
The kid kinda laughs while smiling and says "I make it $80" and counts out most of his yellow (CA $5) chips.
Folded back to you.
What has likely happened at this table over the last couple hours? How did the kid likely get such a oddly chipped stack?
What's his range?
What's your play?

Alright, I don't play a lot of ring or especially live, but here is my thought (and trust me, I'm a donk, I've proved it this weekend).
He has the $5 chips because he has taken a lot of initial pots on the last orbit... people are just folding to his opening bets uncontested... but he has been doing that a lot. You've got a good hand, his range is pretty open, probably A-rag or better, with all pairs possible and QT+ possible.
Am I even close?

I am with Monty here, he probably picked up a lot of small pots by pushing the table around, with 145 in the pot I dont think folding is an option, calling will give the 2 other reasonable players decent odds to call, so I would probably reraise him

God are we all in trouble if people start following me...
I have reviewed this again and think a shove might be too much... my recent bouts of 'gambooling' have been killing me and I think I might go a bit more conservative now... I might re-raise him 4x his bet, then review after his action...

push
and take the pot down right there
i would be more worried if he made it $100 with a hundo chip

I agree. It looks like he's been taking down loads of small pots by being agressive pre-flop, so I think his range is huge. I push.

Usually when someone colors up, they keep at least $200 in $5 chips to work with. If he's been picking up small pots, he'd have a lot more yellow chips.

does that imply he'd been limping a lot and without a lot of raises, giving us reason to fold?
I'm just not sure what about his stack is oddly tbh, so it's hard to make a read, other than the fact he's been talkative and active in the last orbit or 2. Though that would seem to point towards loose-ish player we'd push against.

The chip thing was kinda odd. Rarely see the 100s in this game. Usually someone came from the table games (and color down to 3 stacks of yellow) or had a lot of chips. My best guess is that he won a pretty massive pot and has been bleeding off money since then.
I've laid down AK pre-flop plenty of times in a limit game, and certainly this isn't a insta-push for me. But no way do we give this clown credit for a better hand and certainly not with $40 dead money in there.
I pushed, he tanked, faked calling a couple times to get a reaction, then folded 77 face up. Nice read sir.
