I was browsing around the web looking for profiles on Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and how he started his poker career. He was actually a dealer to begin with but when he found out how much money his brothers were making playing online poker he decided to join in. Anyway he started with limit holdem and he was successful at it, but now he's one of the best young players in NO-LImit...
Has anyone here first started playing limit-holdem and jumped to no-limit and made a great transition. Anything in limit that helped you become a great no-limit player???

Limit players are better than no limit players. It is an easy transition
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I went from nl to limit. I think the transition from LHE to nl would be much easier than nl to limit.

I think Limit helps your NL a game lot, while the opposite may not. Limit is very good when you begin because you will learn solid basics of the game without the immedieate risk of ruin. When playing limit you constantly apply pot odds, and there are a lot of other strategic concepts that simply HAS to be learned and mastered if you want to be succesfull at limit. The good thing about Limit Holdem is that you actuallt get to PLAY some. This can be tough in NL at first, because you will get in so many murky situations. Evaluating a specific play is much easier done in Limit than in No Limit, were things seldomly is as clearcut.

I, myself started out as a NL player but didn't do any good. Than I started to play Limit and really learned to play strategic poker. I then went back to NL, with a much more solid overall understanding of the game. Needles too say I did much better. I think NL is the more interesting game, the dynamic of the game is simply so much greater, and the psychology much deeper. However, I do think Limit Holdem is a great game, and I do believe that a good LHE-player will have a larger edge in a NL game than most people think.

I believe the best NL Cash players make more then the best limit players, online that is. It's good to develop a solid game all-around, not just limit/nl holdem, but also Stud, Omaha, ect. Being a good poker player makes it easy putting people on hands.

Thats because a strong NL-player has a greater edge over the weaker NL-player than the strong FL-player has over the limitfishes. You can win loads of cash at FL as well, no doubt, however, since you are somewhat "handcuffed" (the betting structure of course) you cant exploit weaker players in the same way. On the other hand, I believe Pot Limit to be the game were the strong player benefits more than any other holdemvariation.

I would venture to say that if a FL and a NL player each made the same amount of money (per table per hour), the FL player has more "skill" in the sense it is more difficult to win that same amount in FL.

And I agree with the statement that in FL you get to "play" more poker. Cos lets face it, in NL deviating from ABC poker too much, is for most players, -EV.
