villain is 25/19/7

i like to vary my UTG range. so i often will raise with SC and gappers if the table is tight. and this table was very tight except for this villain.

i felt he would raise like this for info often enough to make this profitable... by him folding or me hitting.

Very creative.

It definitely seems like a play that would be extremely table specific though, and would have to be a right place right time deal.

You are really only worried about an Ax, or an sc with an 8, and are probably getting the pocket pairs to fold as well.

Even with the Ax you have outs in case the flush doesn't hit; with the 8 you have the flush draw. Overcards probably won't be calling the shove.

um.... i'm not worried about A high... if thats what you mean by Ax. no one at 10NL is calling me with AK. i'm not worried about an 8 either... its just to unlikely. i'm very worried about 99, TT JJ or slow played higher pair... which is kinda unlikely too. i suppose there is a small chance this particular villain could look me up with 66, 77 but i'm actually a favorite against those hands.

so i'm only worried about a slow played over pair.

this is suicide against a 16/12/2.

You're going broke that way. You don't need to vary your UTG opening range, because nobody pays attention - and even if they got stats on you they don't have a significant enough sample size.
Flop play is tricky. I think you actually have close to 0 fold equity there. I don't know what happened here. You're probably c-betting A LOT and he's picking up on it.
I don't really feel like discussing the flop play, because wth are you doing with T7s in a raised pot???
The strengh of a hero is defined by the weakness of his villains.

You do not need to vary your UTG range at 10NL. Even if you do, T7s is a poor choice. I do not like any part of that hand.

This!

He has shown strength by his flop-raise and i'm sure villain wouldn't fold often enough to make this profitable.

this is probably true. its just the table i was at was very very tight... i probably shoulda just moved to a different table.

25/19/SEVEN...

i thought i was very possible he was just trying to use his position to steal it.

shouldn't i be paying attention to these types of "reads" in specific situations vs specific villains?? if i just play like a robot am i really growing?

The stats are over how many hands? 25/19 also means his calling range is pretty wide here with many different types of 8 in his hand.

Yes, you should be paying attention. As far as growing, I think you are getting a step ahead of yourself. Think in terms of long term and what is required from you to maximize profit at the games you are playing. At 10NL, being a tight aggressive "robot" will yield the most profit and you WILL be growing as a player, just not in the terms you are thinking about. You will be learning the importance of being consistent with a certain play style and doing what is required to beat a certain level and not out thinking yourself. Their is no point on putting yourself on these marginal spots where it really becomes a guessing game.

Raising T7s preflop against tight players is great with position. It will just get you into trouble like this UTG.
Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.
