Just to prove I can be the worst noobie dumbshit around, I thought I'd post a story about last Tuesday night. Found out my 18 month old son had pneumonia. The other kids are in bed. I'm at home playing poker watching them. Wife is at the ER with youngest. Chest xray positive. Pneumonia.
I go on super life tilt, and of course, keep playing poker for 3 hours. The worst of it is, we have a 4 year old who had pneumonia 2 years ago, and spent 3 days in the PICU and 11 days total in the hospital. And the diagnosis just screws up my head.
So I start overshoving every flop bet and just playing like supercrap, but I got these amazing cards that helped - both to get me playing maniac and to keep me from losing hundreds. I end up down 2 BI when I finally come to my senses and close out my games.
Postflop analysis: kiddo's okay, and off most of his meds, so that's +++++LIFE EV. And why, if I just wanted to play some poker to "veg" and take my mind off things, why don't I just play NL2 where two BI is like .25% of my roll? And why did I have to be on tilt when all those great cards came flyin' my way? How many BI's UP would I have been if I was playing even half-decent poker?
Life is more than poker, guys. Good luck at both.

Hey Robb, glad everything came out good with your son. 2 BI means nothing when something like that hits home. Just think if someone would have said give me 2 BI and everything will be fine with your boy, you would have given it all away and not thought twice.
Very glad all is good for you man, wishing a speedy recovery to your boy. Now kiss him and tell him Dad needs to go get his BI 's back.

You are an FTR station-pwn'ing badass motherf**ker. You have no pansyass, girly-girl, crybaby fears. Pwn the f**king stations like you know you ought to. And win some damn money, dammit.

Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

I guess this is kind of off topic but....
I got into poker to take my mind off certain things that were going on in my life, and when ever I need to get away from the world I play poker. I know this is the opposite of when you should play poker, but I find that it can really clear my head to get involved in some cards.

Maybe, but it is also the reason people might meditate, or go for a nice long walk.
