Hey guys
Played no limit holdem with about ten buddies. I played very well for most of the night. It got down to the last 3 guys left.
i'm big blind at 100 chips. I get Jack hearts, 3 clubs
guy next to me folds. small blinds calls
flop goes queen clubs, 3 of hearts, jack of diamonds. I went ahead saw I had two pair and threw down 400 chips. Without hesitation he calls the 400. next card was a seven 7 of hearts. helps me not but I immediatley I went in with another 400 chip bet. He calls just as quick. last card is the King of spades which scares me. I went ahead and bet 400 again. He reaches for his big stack of 100 chips and lays out 1000 chips. It made me think. I had about maybe 1600 hundred in chips left so I could somewhat make the call but I thought he had something better than I had. I folded the hand. He flips his card and all he had was a pair of sevens. agh!!!
any advice on how i should have played that would be appreciated

So are you saying he had Pocket 7's that made him a set? If so you did the right thing by folding.
If you're saying he only had a pair combined with the board, then you just got outplayed. He bought the pot outright and scared you off.
The only thing you can do head up in that situation was to gamble and go all in after the flop. You had two pair, and your only real concern would have been trips or Q w/ J or 3
By going all in you eliminate the decision of should I or shouldn't I after the turn. He was loose and was going to bluff it all the way. And basically his actions let you put doubt into your mind. You would have made him think if it was worth chasing the draw to whatever he was holding.
Sometimes you just gotta say what the hell, "Show me what you got."

he had 7 9 off suit. he was small blind by the way.
i was considering it. I should have but like you said I let him get to me. I had two pair but didn't feel confident in it. that was the turning point in the game for me. I eventually lost. lesson learned

I think the flop bet was good.
I think the turn bet was too small, I would have bet 800. I think with that board, you still have him beat, and you make him pay big. If he calls that bet, I'd check & call on the river.
But the way your hand played out, I would have definitely called the river raise if I'm understanding the betting amounts. You bet $400 on the flop, turn, and river. On the river, your opponent raises the bet to $1000? So, he only re-raises you $600... considering the size of the pot, the amount you already have invested in the pot, and the fact that you still have a decent hand, I would have made the call...

No one is stating the obvious. 200 chips preflop, 800 at the flop (400 a piece), 800 at the turn, and then Dagouch's 400 and the other guys 1000 chip bet. 600 to call for a 3200 chip pot! Pot odds demand you call here.

thanks for the advice. I truly dropped the ball on that one. He played me like a fiddle. but this won't happen again.
